My dog will rub his nose on the floor next to his food and on the placemat that his food/water dishes are on until they spill all over the place. It's not like he will eat the food after its spilled he just seems to want to spill them on the floor. Why won't he stop doing this? I need the placemat there otherwise my other dog makes a huge mess on the floor when eating/drinking. I guess I have a mess either way but does anyone know what is up with this dog?

Wow, that is strange... And irritating, I bet. I've had dogs that like to spill a little out with their noses to eat it, or they will scoop it out with their paws and eat it off of the floor. They always ate it. But the picture I get from your description is a little different. This would be a great question for a professional animal behaviorist.

What sort of dog is he? I only ask because some of the shorter-nosed dogs can sometimes have trouble with certain dish-shapes or kibble-sizes.

I would also try a different shape of bowl. I use dishes that are wide and flatter, the base being wider than the mouth of the dish. These dishes do not spill easily. One thing I did with my messy Malamute years ago was to velcro her dish to the floor. She would actually flip her dish over, despite the wide base, and the velcro stopped her from doing that. I could still easily pick it up when she was done and wash it out.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help... Best of luck to you!

I guess your dog likes eating off the ground. Maybe you could get a smaller food dish, so that it is closer to the ground for your dog. I don't have a dog so I'm not sure why your dog is doing this. You could try it if you want to. (Try to make the bowl wide in length, and small in hieght.)

For some reason he's trying to bury his food.

Dogs bury bones and other surplus food so they will have it when they need it. Even though you've fed your dog twice a day for the last 6 years, they always want to be prepared for a famine.
