Just load the disk into your CD Rom and reboot the computer. Boot to the CD Rom first instead of your hard drive or floppy. The WIndows XP disk will then load and walk you through the rest.

Take the Any windows OS CD. install it. During installation it prompts for the drive selection then select the dirve you want to format press continue. then next screen say "do you want you format this dirve" and some options will be given (Fat, Quick fat, NTFS, Quick NTFS) select the format you want for the drive. escape the installation. Done All your data from the partion is lost.

Put the Windows CD in and make sure you boot from it. You will see a blue screen. Wait till it asks you to do stuff. Then press enter. Then F8. Then choose the partition you want to install in. Make sure you choose NTFS when it asks you the file system. Then follow the rest of the instructions.

PUT YOUR CD LABELED WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION THEN RESTART YOUR COMPUTER YOU WILL FIND THE WINDOWS SETUP GOES TO START THEN YOU WILL ASK FOR NEW INSTALLATION AND RE-FORMAT OR NOT TRY AND DON'T BE A FRAID

well you need to boot with Floppy or bootable cd and Format... harddisk... in dos after booting with any bootable media type Format C: it'll format c drive and windows xp in it... mostly... reinstalling windows will fix any problems in windows.... so why don't you try reinstalling windows before.... formatting whole Drive

FOR WINDOW XP TOTAL FORMAT
1) LOAD WIN XP CD AND RESTART
2) AT START-UP, PRESS DEL TO ENTER BIOS MODE
3) SELECT ADVANCE BIOS SETUP
CHANGE 1st BOOT FROM CDROM
(REVERT BACK AFTER FINISH)
CHANGE 3rd BOOT FROM FLOPPY
(REVERT BACK AFTER FINISH)
4) CHOOSE DELETE DRIVE TO TOTALLY FORMAT IT
(CHOOSE EITHER FAT OR NTFS)
5) CREATE PARTITION: BY CHOOSING CREATE DRIVE
(IF YOU NEED A PARTITION)
6) THEN INDICATE VOLUME SIZE FOR DRIVE
7) CHOOSE INSTALL NEW TO :-
8) REPEAT FOR 2nd DRIVE FORMAT & INSTALLATION
(IF PARTITION IS REQUIRED)
