it is a windows based coumuter. is it just a conflict between bill gates and mac?

I don't think you have your software installed properly.
Go to Programs, edit/delete the ipod software then reinstall it. restart com & see if that corrects the prob. If it is still restarting when you polug your ipod in call tech support for your ipod or com. ( you should find the 1800# with the ipod software/manual.
