It most certainly can if you're not using the appropriate shoes or if you're stomping on the treadmill. Try to walk on the treadmill like a feather in the air. And also try to spend a little more money on a good pair of shoes with a really thick padding... also don't wear the same shoes every day. You have to give the padding in your shoes time to bounce back in order for them to limit the shock going up your legs. If all that fails just try to wear knee braces.. you could be damaging your knees by overextending them.
good luck!!

Depends if you are walking weird on it (ie: doing something incorrectly) or if you have a existing knee injury. Or if you go from doing no exercise to running on a treadmill 5 times a week, yeah, that's going to shock it. Take it slow.
**or if you are like 400 pounds, it'll probably hurt your knee, because of the extra weight.

if its done correctly it won't, but the constant pressure of your feet slamming down on the treadmill will, over time, cause knee problems. I would reccomend an eliptical machine if this is a concern.

Probably doesn't cause knee problems, but if you have an already existing problem, it could be exacerbated by walking.

Yes it does. So does playing badminton, tennis, or any sport that requires you to run.
But there is a proper way to run on treadmill so you won't injure your knee.
Ask your doctor or fitness instructor about it.
