Religion....There is the singular that causes the problem.
Religion is mans attempt to control the spiritual in every ones life. A controlled way in which we express ourselves and the way we see, accept, communicate, and worship GOD.

I believe that God is part of everything, but the Conservative family I come from, believe that borders on witchcraft. Shall I follow the witches path because i see along part of their lines...?

Some people see things in a very strict way. Others can't see at all.... those of us out here that commune with God and give him the respect and belief that he deserves.. God does provide peace of mind, a loving nature and a life that disregards the fear that can plague us as we walk through this life on a planet control and being destroyed by man.

You are confusing the religions with the practitoners of the religions. Religion itself is a vehicle that be used to become more loving, peaceful, humane, etc. However, not all people use it for that. Like any other tool it can be misused.

I can sit in a chair, I can stand on a chair, or I can hit someone with a chair. All are things I can do with a chair but not all of them are useful or beneficial.

Religion is the same way, it can be used to elevate us or devolve us. It just depends on how you want to use it.

Yes it is supposed to make us peaceful, loving and humane.
It also provides the timy minds with a banner under which to subject others to their ill considered prejudices.
Closer to home, examine the makings of a bar room brawl. It starts because a tiny mind fixing on an item of trivia and then blowing it out of all proportion.
The big brains are not those who are convinced they are right, but those who know that they are right, so let everyone else keep on getting it wrong!

Like they say in the movie "Dogma", you should have IDEAS, not BELIEFS because people hold fast to beliefs and are willing to fight, kill or die for their own and unwilling to accept others who have different beliefs. But people who have ideas are more willing to be open to other ideas. The Bible, for instance, should be used as merely a guideline to live by, not the end all and be all that you should base your whole life on. I think Religion makes some people small minded simply because they don't know how to think for themselves.

Religion is a term applied to a group with a system of beliefs that govern their behavior.

Religion does nothing and you know of many examples where peace is the last thing a religion brings.

Hell no! Religion is a social institution and reflects the society in which it part. Conquest oriented societies like the Romans, Norse and "Conservative Americans" have angry, dominating and vengeful Gods. Peaceful (and there ain't many!) groups like the Hopi, Navajo and Nuir have more friendly gods who are intersted in building social harmony.
That is why I am a proud member of the Landover Baptist Church.

Seriously, I think if there was a God s/he would make our religious options a little more clear, not the malestrom we currently have.

I don't think that "religion" is meant for peace, but to grab a hold on others. I think people don't get small minded but big headed. This is why you shouldn't follow religion but follow the Savior.

all religions were founded in Violence. I am going to pick on Islam a bit, so sorry, but read about the founding of Islam and the amount of violence that occured while spreading it early on and you will be amazed.

On a second note, religion has been used to control man. Kings were semi gods duirng the 13-14 centuries and they used that to wage war to increase thier own benefit. Religion is peaceful in concept, but it gets manipulated and people who follow it blindly, follow it anywhere, sometimes to violence. It is a very sad truth

Religion is man-made beliefs/actions. The Word is not. According to the Word, if we follow it we will become peaceful, loving, and humane. The Word is Christ. The Word can be found in the bible. Check it out!

Christ lives!
