A barback is the person who does all the back work for a bar. Collects the empties, mops, washes diches, gets new botles or kegs out of storage, gets clean rags for the bartender, maybe has to go out and get ice if they run out. Basically, the bar slave/gopher. It's what you do, usually, before you're a bartender.

Barbacks are the people that do all the b*tch work behind the bar. I actually prefer barbacks to bartenders. Some of the bartenders I know are *** holes and think they're cool cuz they can make a drink. All I need is a beer or glass of wine...no tossing bottles or drinks lit on fire for this girl.

A "bar-back" is the lucky soul who gets to do all the prep and legwork for the bartender and is given a meager tip out at the end of a grueling session of evening's business. The main purpose of the barback is to have everything at the ready for the bartender...ice, mixers, liquors, beer...the bartender then is free to mix away and needs to run for nothing. It is also a staging ground for new or inexperienced talent.

A barback is a bartender's assistant. They usually do things like get ice, restock, keep the back of the bar cleaned up. They are pretty much a busboy for the bar.

A person who is not the bartender. They stock all of the beer and liquor as well as clean up messes behind the bar or out on the floor. They also will get you napkins or other things when you run out of them as a bartender.

a barback is the person who stocks the beer in the coolers, refills the ice, brings in glasses from the kitchen, basically the guy who makes sure the bar has all the supplies it needs.
