Some breeds are more prone to being runners, I'm pretty sure the lab is not but I don't know about a boarder collie. Shepards and huskies are some breeds that are prone to being runners. I don't know how to prevent those tendencies, but the invisable fence is somethign you can put on your property and that gives them like a shock if they try to leave the yard.

once you're particular that it is our business enterprise, stop with the help of the SPCA, the Humane Society, or any vet's workplace and ask for pamphlets on the issue of having canines spayed, and the opt to. Erich, who's extremely just about 19, would say that you don't know a few thing about canines because of your age, yet he will locate it troublesome to apply that argument about a veterinarian. an same with the 17 year old female-- even as you mustn't be in a position to talk from authority as a 16 year old, an same isn't real of grownup experts... and there are quite a number of pamphlets on the issue. you could also receive and replica the internet web site I put in the 'source' container less than. notwithstanding, i'm not particular any of that's going to do any good. It dowsn't sound like both your brother or his lady friend are quite fascinated in listening to some thing they don't opt to take heed to-- that their minds are set. Too undesirable, yet all you should do is the most acceptable you could. good success!

I agree with the others but i bet you can train him at home instead of spending money i would try disciplining him when he runs off like catching him with the car then punishing him by putting him outside a while or do something he hates alot so maybe he will learn to stay put but if it doesn't then take him to a trainer.

Labs Love to run. My dad has six border collies and they stay right by his side, never run off. It must be the lab in him. Take him to some training classes, or get an invisible fence, that way he stays in the yard. I have a Jack Russell who I have to watch like a hawk cause he takes off running too.

I had a border collie mix that did the same thing. I guess it's that herding instinct. For now if he gets loose, get his attention then run away from him, he'll chase you instead of something else. Keep working on the trainning. Good Luck

train him to come when you call. try in garden or house first.
let it wonder away from you then call its name in high playful tone and tell him to COME and neal down and show it the treat. once it sees food it should come to you. give it the treat and a fuss. keep repeating this until it comes as soon as you call.
then reduce the amount of treats only treat him every other time he comes back.
eventually you wont need a treat.
take treats with you on walks when you feel that he will come back for the treat if out, and give it a go.

it will take time and there is bound to be some mistakes.

Take him to a trainer, or keep him tied up, or walk him yourself on a leash. I would reccomend the training though, if you REALLY love your dog, it's worth the money, and you get a lifetime of stress free dog-loving fun! Hope it helped ya!

Neutered dogs are less likely to roam, so that could help if he's not already neutered.

Other than that, I think that you need to work on a recall command. Basically, you need to train him to come when called, in any situation.

First stop doing whatever it is that is happening that causes him to get loose.

Then look into training for reliable recall.
