"(Atheists) don't want there to be a God because they don't want any accountability for their actions."

Many, many people have said this. If you believe in God, do you not also believe that you are accountable to, say, your family, your boss, the law of your land, society at large and your own conscience?

Or must we understand that belief in God nullifies all of those?

Has Jackie Chan ever, before today, been brought up during a theological discussion?

God's spark is in everyone, whether they know it (or care!) or not. If you're accountable to God, you're accountable to everyone, including yourself.

It is through your relationships with other people that you serve God.

I am an atheist. I believe that there is no God. However despite the comments so far I feel I have a responsibility for my actions. In fact, I feel that I have a greater responsibility for my actions than people that believe in God as I am accountable for my actions and cannot take solice in the forgiveness of a God.

It scares me that some people might think that they are ONLY accountable to God.

newbian_queen's answer is a glorious contribution to the already huge pile of misunderstanding between religious and non-religious people. You've got to be careful in the language you use. The word 'belief' or 'believe' seems to be thrown around too easily by many religious folk.

She says we must have believed in it to then not believe in it. Well no, actually. When I believe something I BELIEVE it, it is a very strongly held conviction - extremely close to the point of KNOWING it. What you actually meant, I think, is that atheists must have CONSIDERED the notion of the existence of god, and then discounting it. That, I think, is very different to BELIEVING something and then discounting it. That is a very radical change of mind.

I believe that God is the only entity we are accountable to, if you seek to be with Him forever.

We can be saved only by His mercy and grace...We need to want to be with Him, and accept that we cannot make it to the Father's House with our deeds and thoughts, no matter how good they are to the human kind. Because Jesus is the only way and the only truth and the only life!

I know I NEED Jesus for me to able to go to heaven. I try my best to be good, but I have a lot of shortcomings no matter how much I try...and that is why I am so thankful that Jesus died for our sins so I do not have to die. I humble myself in the front of my Lord. And I truly pray that I do not cause anybody to stray away from Him ( by doing something I should not or by not doing of something I should )...but I know that He has the power to fix the damage done by me. I pray for His wisdom. Following His wisdom I can be with Him forever, and that is what my heart desires! And if I can be any help here, I want to give all the credit of that to my Lord. I am nothing without Him.

Paul tells us how to become a Christian. James ( the half brother of Jesus ) goes more into details for what it expected from us once we become Christians.

No I feel I am accountable to my fellow man as well. It is part of a package deal!
"“Stanzas on Freedom"

Men! whose boast it is that ye
Come of fathers brave and free,
If there breathe on earth a slave,
Are ye truly free and brave?
If ye do not feel the chain,
When it works a brother’s pain,
Are ye not base slaves indeed,
Slaves unworthy to be freed?

Women! who shall one day bear,
Sons to breathe New England air,
If ye hear, without a blush,
Deeds to make the roused blood rush
Like red lava through your veins,
For your sisters now in chains—

Answer! are ye fit to be
Mothers of the brave and free?

Is true Freedom but to break
Fetters for our own dear sake,
And, with leathem hearts, forget
That we owe mankind a debt?
No! true Freedom is to share
All the chains our brothers wear,
And, with heart and hand, to be
Earnest to make others free!

They are slaves who fear to speak
For the fallen and the weak;
They are slaves who will not choose
Hatred, scoffing, and abuse,
Rather than in silence shrink
From the truth they needs must think;
They are slaves who dare not be
In the right with two or three.

There are only 2 constants which God is looking for: - Love and Truth.
1. Love and and be true to yourself.
2. Love and be true to others.
3. Love and be true to God.

You are only on this world for maybe 70 ish years out of all eternity, so I wouldn't say your boss has that much of a hold of you in the great scheme of things.

Love and light

getting all drunk and embarassing himself in public.
who would think a nice man like him would humiliate himself like that?
He is a good person 99% of the time right?
He probqbly believes in God but went off the track for a bit...
answer....people are people
God is God

You don't have to believe in God to be accountable in society. Life is life, but spirit is spirit. You are only accountable to yourself.

Your 'sins' are not counted against you in the eyes of God. All are righteous under grace. What you do cannot seperate you. You are it. You are not just built, you are It.

God has many names and faces, which one you use is up to you. As for athiests... not only do they choose to not be held responsible. They're kind of silly, in order to not believe in something, first youo had to belive in it at some point in time. So who's the real doofus now??
