Because marriage has only two days of happiness - the first day and the last. So it's not worth all the trouble. You are in love only before marriage, you are out of it a day after. Men always want to be in love. That explains the reason for the cold feet.

Okay, I like this question. Men NEVER really want to get married - WOMEN DO! Women grow up dreaming of their wedding day while men merely acknowledge the possibility of it's future existence. Women want a big wedding with bells while, if left completely up to a man, you'd get married in a bar and use a ring made out of a folded dollar bill. I could literally go on for days but like I said before, we really don't care for getting married, we just want to make our woman happy...even if it's at our expense (demise!).

I was 47 when I married for the first time. I'm still undecided if it was worth it. There are pluses and minuses. The big minuses are that 1. I get nagged 2. I will retire much later than previously planned
The main pluses are 1. I don't live like white trash anymore 2. I'm no longer an alcoholic.

Thats when his ego kicks in. A guy virtually thinks he can have as many women as he wants but then all of a sudden he's limited to **gasp** one. While most overcome that, there are still those immature guys out there that cant and arent worth it (they'll end up cheating). Try talking to see if he's serious. If he's not back off the subject for a while, you definately dont want to push it, he'll only get more unnerved. My husband agrees.

Generally because YOU are having sex with him before marriage. Why SHOULD he marry you? If you make the fatal marriage mistake of thinking sex before marriage will make you more alluring to him you in fact do everything AGAINST getting him to marry you. Girls who KNOW how court properly don't give up sex simply because a guy buys them a slice of pizza. As a result they are more mysterious, more alluring, more enticing, and more of a challenge to catch. Hence, a guy who truly loves you will want to marry you so that, in part, he can enjoy that part of a relationship.
If you've been dating for a while and he says he loves you but won't marry you (even though I don't know you) I will bet you are sexually with him. And so he will NEVER marry you. Sorry.

not all men do, but if he isn't 190% positive he wants to be married you don't want to marry him regardless of what he said once upon a time. it won't work so save yourself all the trouble and expense of a wedding and divorce. the point is, it doesn't matter why just make sure you recognize it for what it is and don't try to push the issue, it will be a huge mistake if you do. perhaps you will 'win' and get what you want in the short term, but in the long run you will lose BIG!

Don't tar us all with the same brush. I have been with my fiance just over 5 years. We are getting married 7 WEEKS TODAY....& I can't wait. I have been heavily involved in the marriage plans. The only thing I am unsure of is the wedding dress...I'm not privvy to that information.

Take a look at terri2003anne's answer. She used the word "wrangled". This suggests against his will. A man's instinct is to sleep with as many women as possible before settling down. He might see or know a woman that he would love to sleep with before he commits to you.

Because men are afraid of committment and therefore afraid of failure, or they are always trying to find someone better. Not all men are like that though, my husband knew he wanted to marry me when we were 14.
