Depends on why the cat is pissing on the carpet. You could take the cat to the vet and make sure nothing is wrong, and that it doesn't have some type of infection. You could make sure the litter box is kept VERY clean. Their sense of smell is much better than ours and some cats will not tolerate messy boxes. Also, if you have multuple cats, you should get multiple boxes.

If it is a male and unfixed, it may be "marking it's territory" and if the cat isn't too old, you should get it neutered ASAP. Neutering may fix the terrotiry problem if it's done early enough, it's a slim chance, but there is a chance.

Most importantly - clean the heck out of where ever the cat is pissing. Just wiping it up won't do. Again, their sense of smell if far better than ours - they can smell what we don't and once they have sprayed a spot, they can think that spot is the new litter box and just keep going there. Use one of the enzyme products like Nature's Miracle. A carpet cleaning maching wouldn't hurt either.

If nothing works, keep it up to date on it's shots and flea treatment, and if you live somewhere that it's safe to do so, let it be an indoor/outdoor cat.

If its a Male....Getting him fixed at this point wont stop him from spraying if hes already doing it. If its a female, in my experience there is no way to get them to stop. HOWEVER I do have a male cat that will pee in the litter box but nothing else. He will go outside just fine tho. I was kind of afraid to let him out due to hes completly de-clawed and also I was afraid he would run away, BUT it was the only way from getting him to stop going to the bathroom in the tub or right next to the litter box. He now goes to the door when he wants out to go, and even wakes me up in the morning like a dog would, and sits by the door when he wants back in. Maybe your cat would do better outside.

Clean the spot with a cleaner like Urine Gone or Nature's Miracle that has enzymes to completely get rid of the stain. You might try switching litter to something non-scented since some cats don't like scented. Take the cat to the vet to get a urine test to rule out the possibility of infection (one of the main causes for refusing to use the box to pee). I also got a 2nd box when my cat was peeing outside the box and that seemed to work well.

Male cats (surprise) are usually guilty of this is they are not neutered. Also make sure the littler box is cleaned out every day.

bypass to Petco or Petsmart and purchase this spray stuff. that is talked approximately as good Kitty. It makes the cat lead to spite of they are doing in that spot and makes them no longer poop on your carpets. labored for my 2 cats!
