Some nights my puppy starts whining but I do dont know why and occasionally growling. So I wake him up and hold him and calm him down.

It is puppy dreams. Both of my dogs dream. They whine, growl, snort and move their paws around. They do the same things when they chase rabbits and squirrels from my yard, so I think they are having nice dreams. If they do this when I am sleeping (they sleep with me) then I will wake them up by petting and holding them. Off to sleep we all go!

Dreaming! Mine growl, yip, whimper, etc... Most of the time I just laugh and leave them alone unless they sound really distressed; then I wake them up and tell them it's okay... Most of their dreams sound like fun; sometimes their paws move like they're chasing stuff! If your dog seems to be having bad dreams you're already doing the right thing!

he is dreaming. Let him be. The poor ol' thing doesnt need you messing with him while hes dreamin bout chasin rabbits. Would u like it if woke you up while u were dreamin bout nailin the person of yer dreams? no. So leave him be and let him dream. Let sleeping dogs lie so to speak. All this touchy feely bullshit gives me a headache.

It's called somehting like respriotary sleeping or something like that my oldest dog has it to. Mainly my vet said it just is dreaming they must have somrthing going on at the time that they don't particuarly like it's nothing to worry about. I'd just keep an eye on it.

He's just dreaming. Most dogs do that when they are excited about a good dream. He's probably just thinking about chasing after a truck full of cats.

They dream just like people do. Sometimes my dog looks like she's trying to run in her sleep.

sometimes being born can be very trumatic. also if the puppy is really active before bed, he could be dreaming of his day. try not to do anything with him about an hour before bed, except taking him outside. keep loving him, he will grow out of it!

Well. When i was three, our new puppy, who is now six years old, whinned a lot. When my mom took me over to her friends house, her dog kept on making this sound. Jenny, my mom's friend, said that he was just getting old. Maybe your dog wasn't used to sleeping in your house.
