I think that it's indicitave that the Mexican government is a serious failure. So, it's good in the sense that it tells us where the problem lies. Is that good for America? Probably not, but ... we should care about the world as a whole, not just America. I'm an immigrant to the US.. LEGAL and I am probably doing more harm than an illegal immigrant. I am taking a high paying job away from an American.. while an illegal alien would be serving you breakfast obsequiously. Well, at any rate.. we should be caring about the world as a WHOLE.. Mexico needs to be reformed.. it's too chaotic and no one wants to live there!

This country was built on legal immigration not on illegal immigration. The situation has been dusted under the carpet for so long that is no longer a simple answer in either direction. As good as having cheap labor in this country (in the form of illegal immigrants) it is also a huge drain on social services that taxes are not collected on.
It has, however, made people here not willing to do low paying - hard labor work when someone else will do it. It's easy to the blindfold on. Americans have allowed ourselves to not be competitive without illegal immigrants.
Does not change the fact that it is illegal. There should be some manner for the US deal with this in an equitable fashion. It's going to be the largest social issue in this country for the next 10 yrs.

Illegal immigration is not a problem, it is considered a world wide phenomenon which is growing because of economics, globalization and mostly because there is demand for cheap labor within industrialized countries and there are millions of hands willing to do the job for cheap wages. There is no magical solution for immigration, but a country with more than 11 million people living on the shadows has a big problem. a million or less is widely acceptable as controllable, but the U.S., Germany, France and Spain are having serious problems controlling illegal immigration. As for America, there is a double speech as on one side everybody is accepting cheap produce, gardners, janitors and thousands of related jobs lowering the price of some products and services; imagine all these jobs being filled by americans?, they will never ever accept such conditions and low wages. On the other hand, providing medical services and schools for these immigrants is putting a lot of pressure on border states economies. Arizona is having a lot of problems and they want to pass the bill to the federal government for not complying with a policy that can effectively contain illegal immigrants. The solution could be a strong support from american companies and invest in Mexico as they can find cheaper conditions to manufacture products and also compete against china imports. Boosting mexican economy will significantly reduce illegal immigration. Internally, new legislation aimed at combating people trafficking and border security will reduce illegal immigration but only through mutual cooperation can both countries solve this problem, but immigration will never ever stop.

i think America would fall apart without the immigrants, they do the work that needs to be done in order for our society to function, that no one else wants to do... if we sent them back, who would volunteer to make up for the loss?

just because they don't pay federal and state taxes doesn't mean that they don't pay taxes at all. they still pay sales tax on everyday items that they buy from the store, but they don't get any of the benefits from taxes. plus we get some of that money back in tax returns, they don't.

i don't think illegal should be the word to describe the immigration.. when America was first founded, did the inhabitants of the colonies take America rightfully? no... so i guess that's illegal too? everyone, unless you're completely native american, has had a relative immigrate into the united states and unless your family was extremely lucky, immigrating to the US was a terrible experience... we should have some compassion

people come to America for a better opportunity and who are we to stop them? is it just a better opportunity for white people? our land is full of hypocrits that say that this is the land of the free and we beckon people to join our country and fight wars with people who are different from us, yet we impose the same atrocities to our own people just not in the same magnitude

It is really difficult to make a decision about this when you take the time to look at it from both sides. Imagine living in poverty and your only dream is to move to a country that will give you the opportunity to get a job and live a decent life. I hate the thought of people living in poverty and us just pushing them away.

However, I can see it from our side as well. This country is so overpopulated as we speak. If all of the illegal immigrants come into the country and take jobs, they are taking those jobs away from unemployed americans.

Then again, a lot of unemployed americans ride the unemployment wave as long as it will carry them, and immigrants tend to scoop the jobs right up. These jobs seem "undesirable" to a lot of snooty americans, who probably wouldn't take those jobs anyway.

To conclude, I can't decide whether illegal immigration is good or bad. There are ups and downs to it, but I don't think it's as bad a problem as the government is making it seem.

It's bad....and have grave consequences. Surely, the common most problem is Mexican illegal immigration. Mexican social mores, where men regularly beat their girlfriends and/or wives and their children, are NOT tolerated here in America; it's very common and accepted in Mexico.

Sure, it's a businessman's dream: hire illegal Mexican immigrants who will work for peanuts on work that would cost thousands, even millions hiring Americans. But be forewarned: cheap labor brings cheap quality. Just keep that in mind when you realize your new home is being built by cheap illegal Mexican immigrant labor; do you know your house will last?

Hope so: after all---you dove deep in debt to get it.

Ok, illegal things- regardless of what it is- is bad. Now for immigration, since they are already illegal immigrants, and they already here, so if they proved that they are doing their duties and not making troubles, so I think they may be got legalized their staying in the USA... plus they should pay their taxes

It is absolutely bad. It is bad because it takes away the rights of those who actually come legally. The US has 1-2 million people who become citizens legally, and they work hard to do that, but then we get millions that come in illegally and get to suck off the system without doing the process set down in the laws. I think we need to start shooting people as they cross the border and that'll stop the illegal entrance really quickly.

Its not an issue of illegal immigration being good or bad. The reasons why people come to this country illegaly isnt because they are criminals. They want to feed, shelter, and clothe their families. They want to take care of their aging parents and grandparents! There is a population of ignorant and mean americans in this country who feel that illegal imigrants are stepping on their rights. Thats a bunch of crap. Every person has the right to basic needs being met, and we are the richest and most selfish nation on the planet and shame on us for makng this such a big deal! Let them do as they please. THEY BENEFIT OUR ECONOMY AND THEY ~OFTEN~ DO THE WORK THAT MOST WHITES FEELT HEY ARE ABOVE.
