Rural Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan are good places to see the northern lights I have seen them as far east as in Nova Scotia but it is rare. The further north you are the better but you can see them from southern Alberta on a clear night

This spectacular magnetic light display is influenced by solar flares, and when the aurora borealis is in full bloom, you can see it from anywhere in Canada and sometimes even the northern US states. Minor displays are more often seen in northern Canada. Unfortunately, there is no way of predicting them -- you just have to get lucky, but once you've seen them, you'll never forget it.

Uh look up LOL
All kiddin aside look to the north. Sometimes activity is so intense this SPECTACULAR display can be seen in some southern US States.
The aurora borealis activity is related to the magnetic activity of the sun.
