I am purchasing a house that has a small masterbath off the master bedroom. it has a shower stall sink and toilet. I really had my hear on a tub with shower inside it. behind this bathroom, is the full bath for the rest of the floor that has a tub/shower combo, etc.

this is a colonial house build in the 1970's. has anyone had any experience on making this type of renovations, I would like to see the layout options or pics. I am just unsure if this can be done, or what other options we would have to get us a master bath the size and style we want.

Okay, tough to do here, but:

I have a small rancher, had a m/bath w/sink/shower stall/toilet (tiny) and in hall a bathroom with sink, tub/shower & toilet for rest of house. Plus had a 1/2 bath (sink & toilet) at other end of house. House built in 1970's as well.

The two bathrooms were tiny square boxes, back to back, about 7' x 5' each -- ugh!! I had a contractor come in and knock the intervening wall out between them, making a 7' x 10' room. We closed off the access through the master bedroom (well, the other door was just outside the master bedroom door and it gave us so MANY other interior options).

We put in a jacuzzi tub & shower, a super-long mixed open/closed vanity only (no sinks) with mirror above across from the tub. It's separated from the toilet with a partial wall topped with glass block and edged w/same so light still comes through from the window on the exterior wall. We put a pedestal sink across from the toilet with medicine chests above both toilet and sink. So -- privacy to bathe, easy access to sink, long counter with no sink to do hair and make-up and such. I love it.

We kept extra room around the toilet and put a pocket door in as the entryway because we have friends who are wheel-chair restricted. We also feel this will be a resale point later on.

We were without a tub/shower for about 3 days & working with the contractor was an ordeal, but other than that, it has worked out beautifully. Every day I look at the wonder I created (I designed the layout and picked out every single item and pattern myself!!) and just fall in love all over again.

Anyway, click me if you'd like more details (if you aren't already overwhelmed).
