I've been told that...but I think if they are still getting regular exercise and are not cooped up all day, it is perfectly fine. As long as they are getting the love and attention they need, it won't bother them a bit.

No.. it is not mean to the dog to have to live in a two-story house. I am assuming that there is a back yard of some type.. If there is NO yard, then it is mean to have dogs that are not able to run in the back yard and/or you take them on 2-3 long walks a day.

I will never understand this obsession with house size regarding dog size. Do your dogs use your house as a playground? Like, IN the house? Why would house size even matter? When in the house, my dogs mostly nap, chew their toys and hang out with us. Playtime and exercise time happens outside--and everyone has access to outside. The size of the house doesn't matter. Before we recently moved, we had a 90 lb dog living with us in our 400 sq. foot (3 room) bungalow. A yard helps becuase then you don't have to walk the dog every time it needs to have a bathroom break, but size of house is irrelevent.

Absolutely Not! Some dogs are forced to stay in a crate 8 hours a day, and they can be just as happy if they are running around and getting lots of attention for the rest of the day. If they were having problems getting enough excersize, they would show it: getting chubby, chewing stuff, barking all day, etc. It would be mean if they show signs of being stressed out and the owner does nothing about it, or gets rid of them without trying to do everything they can to improve their lives.

not if they get enough exercise, and play time.
i have 4 of my own 2 large 2 small, and 3 foster dogs 2 large 1 small. they all get their exercise and playtime and i live in an average size house with a larger yard. we take them to the lake, and the park...7 is a hand full..and we have 3 kids too, but our madness works and the dogs are happy go lucky!

If you have a big yard for the dogs to run around in, it shouldn't be a problem. If you have NO yard, it would not be good. Big dogs need a LOT of exercise.
The yard will have to be cleaned regularly, but exercise shouldn't be an issue if they are allowed to run around.

Actually no, Most big dogs need less space to move around. They are not as high strung as the little dogs and usually don't run around like little dogs

My vet told me big dogs do really well in small living areas bc they are way more laid back than medium or small dogs are. Like everyone else has said as long as he gets plenty of exercise you guys will do great. Good Luck

Not at all, as long as they go out for walks and have a nice backyard to play in, dogs are happy.
