I need glasses, but I can't get 'real' glasses right now. It will probably be a couple of months before I can get an appointment to get my eye's checked out. Until then I was going to get some reading glasses. First of all is this a good idea? Will it make my eyes worse? Also, how do I know what 'prescription' to get? Is it just try them on and see if they work kind of thing? Thanks for the help.

Go to your near-by department store and try on glasses. Select the one that makes your vision improve. You need to see an eye care specialist to make certain you do not have any conditions that require an Ophthalmologist. You either have myopia or presbyopia.

Getting reading glasses OTC is not bad. Many stores that sell them have estimates of what perscription you might need based on age. This is not completely accurate but will help you get by until you can see your optometrist. If there is not a chart, simply start with the lowest number and work your way up until you find the prescription that seems to work best for you. Take something with you that is a good example of the print size you normally would be reading. And no, this will not hurt your eyes. Good luck!

when you visit the eye doctor, they'll tell you everything and get you a prescription, but until then, try on different powers at your local drugstorre to find which one suits you best.
