Unbelievers are always worked up over Christians "tithing"...

But think that contributing to the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA, NASCAR, Anheuser-Busch, Coors, Phillip Morris, Nike, Barnes & Noble, Hollywood Video, Sean John, Busta Rhymes, Dixie Chicks, Sony, Nintendo, Apple, Canon, Kodak, Microsoft, MGM, Dreamworks, Taco Bell, McDonald’s, OutBack, Levi Strauss, Nike, Skechers, your local tat parlor, bar, nightclub, hairdresser and tanning salon is all about making a difference in the world… I guess that’s why they're not overly concerned with corporations running the world and getting in their pockets…

I'm not religious, but I once was. I can tell you from both sides. As a believer I tithed and even gave extra, because that what I was taught to do. I knew that if I gave to the church God would reward me. As a nonbeliever I see that while people are poring out their hearts and pockets for their Church the money not only goes to the building fund, out reach, and things of that nature. It also goes to the pastors pocket. Yes, we understand that's how they make a living, but too many times have we seen this get abused. The pastors driving around in expensive cars, living in huge over sized houses, and wearing the most expensive clothes. Not that all of the or even half of them do this, but it happens far too often. The money that is given by congregation gets abused and is not used on what it should be.

1. Tithing is for the benefit of the Clergy, some find offense in this (a fleecing of the flock if you will)
2. Even some Believers find offense in a Tithe
3. Capitalism is the worship of the Almighty Dollar. To get something for nothing, or the promise of something in the end with no gaurantees, is against the true value system of Capitalism. Religions in general are usually more Communistic with their "from one's ability to one's need" philosophies.

Tithing is different than purchasing something at a fast food restaurant. LOL

The reason why they get angry is very simple... the people asking for the money claim they want it to help people who truly need it... then you hear about their private jets, their many expensive cars, y ou see their wives done up in the most horrible make-up concoctions I've ever seen.... It does not appear that they are helping those who truly need it.

If a Pagan Priest did this, I'm sure every Christian who had seen it would be allllll over him. Right? ^_^

You sure don't know what the hell you are talking about.

The only thing I hate worse than religious fanatics and politicians is capitalism. Multinational corporations are a plague that I try to avoid as much as possible. (Though I can't seem to stay away from Yahoo's evil product.)

Empty headed materialism isn't a sin in christian tradition. As a matter of fact it's encouraged.

Who says they think they are changing the world by being consumers? And I don't personally have a problem with anyone who donates their money to any cause they feel is worth.

And as far as you listing all the corporations that "unbelievers" patronize, you don't listen to music? Or eat? Or watch movies? Does your pastor or priest or whatever drive a nice car? If you are gonna past that judgement, look at yourself first hmm?

I'm an atheist and I hate money.

I actually place little value on material goods unless I can find some use in them.

Like a washing machine (I just bought a new washer and dryer on Wednesday).

I don't own any gold, no diamonds. I prefer not to buy things that are not on sale.

You know.

We get concerned for the same reason that believers do.

And yes, I do find tithing disgusting. Buying chuchleaders golden toilet seats and paying to have missionaies go to other parts of the world and offer food and shoes to children if they become christians (I call it relgio-terrorism, destroying one indigenous culture at a time - I have a friend who used to dot it before he was saved by Darwin).

Yes, you have the right to spend your money that way. And I have the right to be disgusted by it.

Funny you mention all those super-companies.

Have you done ANY research on what all these companies contribute to communities and charitable organizations?

Christian tithing are mere pittance compared to the contributions made by just one of these companies per year.
