It's not to lose weight, but to cleanse out the system.

I would recommend going to a Naturopathic doctor and have them assess you to give you guidelines to cleanse your body. I have tried many fasts/cleanses. I went to a ND about a month ago and I found out what are the ideal foods for me as well as what to avoid. I have better results from this than any cleanse I have tried.

Not sure about the maple syrup (seems like that is defeating the purpose). I've read that hot lemon water with a pinch of cayenne is a good cleanser to drink every morning.

I've always fasted for 3 days, eating whole, uncooked food the day before and after.

For the fast itself, I juice some pineapple, apple, grape juice for the day.
For night (dinner), I gently boil veggies (carrots, celery, beets) with dandelion green and cabbage for a couple hours. I drink a warm bowlful of the juice only for dinners.

Makes me feel a lot lighter, but during the fast, I feel achy.

None of the above. Your body cleans out the system naturally. Anything else is just doing damage to your body.

Fasting is bad for you. You can't "cleanse out your system". That is fraud and snakeoil.

Eat right and avoid poisonous habits.
