I am on summer vacation from work and I am busy doing many things during the day. I exercise daily. I am tried during the day, but when it comes to laying down and going to sleep, I just can't. I am wide awake when I go to bed.

For some reason your natural sleep pattern had been changed-maybe it is the vacation-you could be too busy during the day! Try taking a little nap during the day-I hope your sweet dreams return real soon! Good Luck!

Some suggestions: No caffeine, or stimulants like chocolate after around noon, dark cool room, do not go to bed until you are ready to sleep. I take melatonin, an over the counter natural sleep aid you can get at GNC, or the drug store. It works great for me but caused my friend strange dreams, so do some reading b4 trying. Sleep disturbance may be an age related thing, so you may be doing nothing wrong, it is just where your body is at this time. good luck

I would guess that you are a worrier. As you are supposed to be sleeping you are laying in bed thinking about a million other things. What you have to do the next day, what you forgot to do today, what kind of meal you will serve tomorrow, how to cure world hunger, etc.

Are you on any medications? Sometimes that will drastically affect your sleeping pattern.

That might be because you have too much on you mind. When you go to sleep, you should only try to sleep. Most people review what they did that day or think of what they will do tomorrow. Just try to relax and get some sleep. Also you might want to try to reschedule your sleeping time. Make sure you are getting 8 hours of sleep. No more, no less. If this continues, see your physician.
Hope you get some sleep:)

Several possibilities:
1) You may be too active in the hour or so before bedtime.
2) You may be consuming caffeine relatively late in the day.
3) You may be eating too close to bedtime.
4) You may be getting up too late.
5) You may have too many things going on that you're thinking about.

Now, if any of the above things are true, eliminating it will start you on the road to sleeping well. (The last one, just eliminate THINKING about things, not eliminate the things you're doing.)

Once these possibities have been eliminated, if you still have problems, you may want to actively try to relax (ironic, isn't it?). I mean, doing yoga, meditation or other calming things.

I suffer from the same problems! I have not slept a full night through in over 9 yrs. When I can finally find asleep, I can't stay asleep. I am now seeking help with this issue. You should really talk to your doctor. Best Wishes!

Your mind is not relaxed, maybe take a hot bath before laying down to sleep and drink a glass of red wine, that always helps me distress or relax. I also sometimes take two tylenol pm's and they work wonderfully. I hope you can get a good night's sleep.

If you can get some home made yougurt, mix with a little water and drink, or just buy it at any persian store or restaurant. It will help put you to sleep....

Try to relax and not think about anything, watch tv before you sleep and see if that works.

I believe in vitamin supplements, I don't do drugs, as drugs will make you dependent on them, drugs are a "crutch" & long term use will make you a "cripple". Ambian has really screwed up my sleep pattern! For this reason I have turned to supplements, & I stay away from doctors. Please check this out, this stuff works & you can get it at your local vitamin shop [not GNC] or any health food store! I hope this helps!
