Ps. I am a Christian, but my take on it is that it's just fiction so what's the big deal?

It is a work of fiction. But the villian in the book presents himself as a Bible scholar and continually questions the validity of the scriptures. If people are not aware that many of the "facts" Dan Brown has the villian quoting are not ture, then it could cause people who do not know Bible history to be confused or even believe the things in the book. So as Christians, we need to be sure that the true facts are out there for people to see.

Have you read the book or seen the movie? Personally I have only read the book. And it is just fiction, but many have taken it to be true. Like what it says about the council of nicea (which btw took place waaay after the bible was completed). I really don't get why it was such a big deal though.

I have a friend that refused to read the book, see the movie, and she wouldn't even let me read the book in her house. she said it was all blasphemy. Yet she read the book Wicked (if you don't know what that is, its the "true" story of the wicked witch of the west) and had no problem with it. she never once complained that it was about a witch, or that oz didn't exist. Yet some author said Jesus not only married, but bore a child, and everybody freaks out.

The catholics got most upset. If the book were true, it would pretty much destroy there entire religion. And since they are the richest church in the world, that would effect ALOT of ppl.

I personally think ppl got so worked up because it weakens there faith to have somebody question it. Many times deep down inside ppl are unsure of, or are questioning there own faith. And rather then look into the issue, and actualy figure things out, they'd rather just play the blame game.

I think that it is all just a publicity stunt both for Dan Brown (and of course the book/movie folks) and the frothing Fundamentalists. It gets folks worked up about what might or might not have happened 2000 years ago. And what if Joshua ben Joseph had married Mary Magdelene? I mean, who would have listened to a rabbi who was not married? Of course, if Jesus were an Essene, that probably would not have been too smurfy. Essenes did not mess around.

There is no such thing as bad publicity, really. Meanwhile we have The DaVinci Code Decoded, The DaVinci Code Tours, DaVinci Code nightgowns, DaVinci Code Hoax. Marketing and kaching!

Maybe it is because it allowed the French to claim they were relatives of Jesus. That is the biggest problem. If it had said that Southern Baptists from Waco TX were Jesus' kissin' cousins, now then you would have been seeing those books in every Bible Bookstore in America.

i think of is has replaced perspectives, yet in basic terms as a results of fact human beings are not knowledgeable sufficient on the two facets. i'm no longer a non secular individual, yet i be conscious of that loads of the DaVinci Code replaced into made as much as make the e book look greater conceivable. I actual have study the DaVinci Code and that i've got seen the action picture. I actual have not study Angels & Demons. i've got additionally spent it sluggish analyzing arguments against the e book as properly. i in my opinion enjoyed the e book. i did no longer have self belief what he replaced into asserting, besides the undeniable fact that it replaced into nonetheless a reasonably good e book. The action picture on the different hand replaced right into a great sadness.

You are correct in stating that it is fiction. The reason most Christians are in an uproar is that unlike most fiction books, the DaVinci Code does not use correct historical facts. Instead, he has taken world and church history details and made those up as well, though reffering to specific church councils and peoples. History is important to most Christians, and the flippant manor in which he mixes fiction into well documented facts, rather than creating a fictional story based around actual facts is repulsive.

Because Christianity is a theory, just like the ideas posted in the book that has been proven to be an old school of though. However, true believers do not believe the Bible to be a work of fiction, nor Jesus to be a theory. They would rather just live life in their world with no idea of the fact that there are other theories out there.

It's because the Catholic Church STILL doesn't understand that the best way to make a controversy go away is to ignore it. Stop giving Dan Brown free publicity! If they had just said, "Oh, it's fiction and a good read," the whole thing would be done by now.

You're exactly right! Even the author admitted that The DaVinci Code is untrue. But I think it's because numerous people out there don't realize that it's fiction and, thinking it's true, find it very contrary and even insulting to their beliefs. And because of this, they want to dissprove it. I think that's why there is so much religious controversy.

You are RIGHT! It's FICTION! It's just a novel!!

They don't get in an uproar about every other novel that talks about murder, incest, rape, thievery, adultery, etc.

The religious fundamentalists take themselves too seriously, and somehow think this book is blasphemy and will make sinners out of all of us... IT'S JUST A BOOK people, and in this country, we believe in FREEDOM OF SPEECH - so say your piece, and move along. You aren't going to get a book banned!

I agree with you, it is just fiction, but a lot of people don't realize that and let it shake their faith instead of researching to find out the truth.

Edit: It was a really good book tho, Dan Brown really knows how to write a page-turner...
