I am a runner and I usually run 12-16 miles a week ( I want to eventually run 36 miles in a week) I was picking up apples in my backyard for an hour and my hams are stiff and sore. I tired jogging but it hurt a lot. I've stretched, too. What can I do to make them less sore so I can run? What other physical activies can I do to help me keep the edge?

sounds like you pulled the muscle -- you need to rest it for a while until it heals.

Here are some tips:

1) Continue to stretch

2) Hit a jacuzzi / warm tub.

3) Aleve or another anti-inflamatory. I do not recommend anti-inflamatories to mask pain, however. But this can definitely help take the edge off.

You may want to back away from running for today, though, just to give everything a chance to rest. If you push yourself when you are sore, you'll likely invite a more debilitating injury.

Good luck.

You're probably just overdoing it right now. Try putting a heating pad on them for about twenty minutes and massage them afterwards. Try stretching again. If you don't have a heating pad, try sitting in a warm bath.

You need to stretch before and after each run. You are sore because you are not stretching enough/properly.
