My boyfriend has a motorcycle and I am terrified everytime he goes riding that something will happen to him. Not because of an error made by him but from another motorist. People just don't pay attention when they drive, they tailgate, slam on the breaks for no reason, and cut him off. Does anyone realize that a motorcyclist doesn't have the protection of a steel cage around them? I would love to confront the people who do this to motorcyclists!!!

let me just add, as I'm getting people answering , saying that motorcyclists are jerks, or drive unsafe. I've been on the back of the bike with him, by the way wearing bright colors doesn't seem to matter and my boyfriend has an exhaust which is louder than stock, people still don't pay attention.

That piggy eyed cop is part of the problem. What a dick. In the country I live in that sort of **** doesn't happen very much anymore because there is an intensive road safety campaign running all the time on TV and in other media. We are constantly reminded that we need to look out for bikes, children &c and we're becoming better drivers because of it. We've managed to cut our road toll by about 25% in about 5 years. We also yell at people who do stupid things on the road. In a country without handguns this is a good option. We also have a national police force which is much better for highway consistent enforcement policies. Motorbike riders still have to be careful though because they are not as visible. If he is not so concerned with being cool as staying alive he should wear high visibility clothing and in my country if you don't wear a helmet on a bike you are an idiot. Period. I can't remember the last time I saw a motorbike rider without one. If you don't wear one its an instant $500 fine.

Motorcyclists also bear a responsibility, like not coming up in the fast lane on 595 in the middle of the night, wearing black clothes on a black bike and no marker lights at an absolute minimum speed of 140 MPH. I nearly killed this kid. If I hadn't have subconsciously noticed something just not quite right (there was no way anyone would have been able to see him) before I changed lanes, that kid would've been dead and I probably would have been too.

I make a habit of "Look twice, save a life" and don't flick my cigarette butts out the window, but seriously. There's only so much we can do to protect idiots from their own stupidity. If you are behaving reasonably on a bike, a person in a car has no reason to not see you or realize you're there. But if you're weaving in and out of traffic, going at an obscene rate of speed, you're gonna get what's coming to you.

I'd say the vast majority of motorcyclists bear the brunt of responsibility. They know they're not protected in the same manner people in cars are, and they still behave like fools. I have only on very rare occasion seen a few people on bikes actually behaving like reasonable motorists. Generally they're doing the above, weaving in and out of traffic at obscene rates of speed on the highway and on major streets, popping wheelies on major streets, generally behaving suicidally.

Thats because motorcycle riders have no respect for people in cars. Once they stop endangering everyones life, then mabey i will respect them. That means no more 130 in a 50 and no more weaving through traffic, driving on the shoulder and suddenly cutting in front of me. NO more wheelies at 70 mph

Because most motorists are inconsiderate dumb a$$e$!

I always watch for motorcyclists. They have the same rights to the roads as the rest of us. People in cars should be fined more heavily when they cause motorcycle accidents.
