Ok, I have a litter box, he knows where it is. It is like he has 2 favorite spots where I always catch him using it, one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom downstairs right next to, but not in the litter box. I have two litter boxes, one downstairs and one up and two cats. You think he doesn't like the other cats scent?

Take the kitten and the litter box and some food and water and keep it in a confinded area for a week so that is can get used the box. While the kitten is up take a mixture of ammonia and water and scrub the areas where the kitten has been going to remove all trace smell. I have used this before and it worked perfectly. ( make sure to spend time with your kitten durng this week.

Lock the kitten up (the bathroom is a great place) with it's own clean litter box, and it if goes outside the box, put the poo and the kitten in the box so it knows that the two go together.
Make sure, the kitten can physically get into the box. Small kittens sometimes need a small box. Also, are you sure the kitten is totally healthy? Sometimes when cats are sick (like when they have worms), they don't go in the box.

For now you should confine your new kitty to a smaller room like the bathroom for a bit this way he wont be messing up the house with his poopies. In the bathroom put the litter box surround it by newspaper. As well as if he does go on the floor pick up the poop and put it in the litter box - Then after he does it put him in the litter box so he knows that is where he is suppose to go. Also you can check out tips by going google cat poops everwhere - Or try going to www.jeeves.com and you can ask for help there. Good luck!

How old is the kitten? It might be too young to learn to use a litter box. Also, you have to get SOFT, kitten-friendly cat litter-change the brand-that might be it. ALways keep it clean. Never scoop the old litter back into the box-cats like to use CLEAN litter boxes. If it's dirty, they might not use them.
Be kind and gentle to the kitten, and it will learn. Never punish it-it's just a baby.

use non-scenting clumping litter and put the litter box in a safe place (not next to the scarey laundry machine)
keep him in a room for a while a (like 1-2 weeks) with the litter box
I am wondering where you got him from - if free from a farm you should know that some farm kittens never learn how to use a litter box, if from a pet store you should take him back.
feed him good food - any from grocery or wal mart is crap loaded with fillers so much harder on his digetive system and will make him poop more

Make sure they each have a litter box for themselves, scoop/rake it each day or as son as you can do not leave poop or even the pee area too long, their sense of smell is amzing and they won't go in it if it smells even the slightest. Sprinkle an odor deoderizer on the bottom of the box before you put the litter in will neutralize the urine, make sure ther litter is not to coarse it may hurt it's feet.
my cat is now 12 and used to do things like that to punish me if I don't scoop or rake at least 2 times a day

after cleaning the litter box often add ammonia drops to the litter box, they have them in the pet store..it will attract him to it and show him where it is (put him right in it!)..but he also could be getting confused if you have more than 1 litter box...remember he's a baby..and it also could be that he requires multiple cleaning of the litter box because he's fussy! but definitely use 1 litter box!

He might not know what a litter box is yet, put all the poop you scoop up in the litter tray and he'll get the idea.

you can get this special spray at petco or petsmart. i think its caleld no mark. and what you do is spray it in the area you don't want your cat to go, and he should keep off of that area.
but i don't know if he'll start going in the litter box or just find another place to do his business.
