I would recommend taking the bird immediately to the vet. Mites multiply VERY quickly, and in a day or so, thousands could be crawling all over your house. The exterminators informed me that most birds (from the wild/undomesticated) have mites, and that it is very common.

Do not take it to a vet. You will be endangering all the other pets that go to the clinic by bringing in a wild animal that needs to be outside with it's parents to survive. If you have touched it in any way, take a shower, wash your clothes immediately and don't touch it again! Wash everything that you touched since you touched the bird... who knows what it might carry! Mites carry diseases themselves and may even infect humans. The bird will probably not live if it's been away from it's parents more than an hour. By then, it will have missed at least 4 meals and may get the idea that humans are friends, and won't avoid mean kids, pets, and cars. Ask a vet if you have any pets (especially birds) to find out what you can do to prevent your pets from getting sick from this wild animal. I'd call your doctor too.

Go to the Murray McMurray Hatchery site (http://www.mcmurrrayhatchery.com) -- they have sprays for mites that are safe for birds. Mostly these are used on poultry before shows, etc. but should be OK for any kind of bird. If there is a pet sotre nearby, they may also have the same thing locally.

I would check with your local wild bird rehab center. They sell bird mite spray at pet stores, but with your bird being so young it probably isn't appropriate. The wild bird rehab centers should be able to take the bird for you. do you know what kind of bird you found?

take it to a rehab...they awill be able to care for it,and get it the right medication since the stuff you buy in the stores might be harmful to a baby bird. They will also know what diet to feed it.
