i have just found out that my sister has applied for a Bt landline, but has been using my name, so that she has run up a high bill and that it will affect my credit rating

She has stolen your identity. Your choices are do you want to prosecute her criminally or do you want to go after her for civil damages? If you want her arrested go to the police, if you want to sue her in small claims go to the local courthouse.....

You phone BT and tell them. You'll have to prove you're you and its going to get messy. The fact that its your sister doesn't give her the right to treat you like this; but other family members may feel sorry for her as she has to take the consequenses for her behaviour. Its ID fraud and you're right, this will adversely affect you for the next 7 years or so if you don't get your name cleared.

Call the telephone company and tell them of the situation, they will mail you a fraud package you must fill out the information and mail it back to them. Once you complete the package they will erase the bill and disconnect the service.

Inform BT but you may have to prove it wasnt you. They should then be able to adjust your credit record with them. If not i would take her to court, i know shes your sis but why should you suffer.

now you have published it on here.. BTyahoo!! they probably know anyway.. and are sending the Fraud Squad round...lol
