I think as long as Barbaro has the spirit and fight to survive, then by all means we (as people) should help him. He is a champion, and a very special horse! He has a positive attitude, and is trying so hard..obviously he WANTS to live! He has more spirit and a better attitude than most people I know! There is something very special about this horse, and I don't think we should give up on him as long as he hasn't given up on himself...which he obviously hasn't!

I am shocked that there has not been an investigation into this matter. Babaro broke through the starting gate early, which is very hard to do (did they dope him up?). They put him right back into the gate and started the race. The normal procedure would be to have a vet check him out and unload all the other horses, to calm them. Then restart the race with or without Barbaro, depending on his condition.
Barbaro was mishandled. This would make for a justifiable lawsuit, but there is a good old boy network, plus the owner would likely be "blackballed", this might have prevented legal action.
Regardless, this should be looked into.

I hope Barbaro dies. I don't know why anyone even cares. It's just a race horse. There will be more that come along. The only thing it was useful for was making money. and by the way sending get well soon cards to a race horse is stupid. It's not like it can read.

I feel very sorry for Barbaro. He's a very special horse to everyone. I hope that he gets better someday. And for those of you who think he is "just a horse" or who says "he'll be good for dog food or glue" I can't believe you! This horse is not just some other horse. He is special to everyone and I say that if you don't care for Barbaro or any other horses on here that are trying their best to win for their owners, then shame on you! Horse racing is not just about the "money" or "who is the best one to bet on". It's really about horses who love to run, who want to try their best. And horses are not stupid! They are intelligent, beautiful, majestic, caring, loyal, truthful, wise, brave, and many other things!

Ok, I'll be quiet now.

For all the people saying who cares stupid horse yall are just full of it.But i think people should wait to race thoroughbreds till they are full grown. Have people thought maybe barbaro broke down for the reason other young champions do? Undeveloped soft bones. i love watching them run but being so young i think it is almost cruel. But when a horse breaks down people put them to sleep and collect the money. But props to the Jacksons for doing every thing in their power to save Barbaro! He is still a Triple Crown Winner in My eyes.

This sucks, I hate these humans! This morning they promised to take me out for a walk & just because I got excited & they got scared, I was put back in this stupid stall. I hate this one...it's so much smaller than the other one! Why do they punish me? I just want to run & have some fun so that if I do die, my spirit can join my ancestors & we can all run free again & assist the others. I don't like these doctors...they keep sticking me with needles & no one will give me a good rub. I need a good massage from healing hands, but everyone seems too scared to touch me. I miss the women who used to care for me when I was younger. They would make special tea for the sick horses. Could someone find them & get me some Loquat tea?

He's a special horse - might have been a champion. But he is, in the end, a horse. It is, as so often, not the break that gets them but the "other" things...laminitis and infection among others. If you can imagine peeling off a toenail so there's only 20% left you can imagine what it's like. I've known a horse missing 1/4 of her foot...and she recovered. But 80% is a lot of foot and a lot of damage. I'd hate to see him die but if putting him down puts him out of pain I'd rather that. He deserves to be pain free.

Watching that video is so painful. I feel horrible, but it is nice that the owners are doing everything they can to save it's life, because back in th day they would have put that horse down on the track after the incident. I hope he makes it.
