Mostly just curious. I know that dogs pant when feeling the heat but I don't see any sign in my cat when its really warm in the summer.

Remember that an animal's fur protects the animals body from environmental problems, insulates from heat. It is a good idea to keep the fur brushed. Remember, too, that cats seem to like warm places (Laying near a radiator in winter, in the sun anytime, on a warm sidewalk or porch). Just be sure to keep plenty of water available.

How Do Cats Stay Cool

They shed and have a much lighter coat in the summer. Actually being covered in something that can "breath" like their fur can actually help keep one cool as it deflects the suns rays from your skin. To see a human example of it look at the people from The Middle East ... Some of the hottest places on earth but notice how the people, in general, stay well covered.

their fur keeps the heat out - cats also are more active at night when its cool - they will sleep in the day or lay on cool flooring to cool themselves

u should ALWAYS shave your cat in summer expecially if they are long haired cats like persians, anyone who loves their cats would always, always want their cat to feel comfortable. You should shave 'em. obviously they wont look as good as when their hair was its normal self, but would u rather have your cat suffer the heat looking good, or enjoy the warm summer season, still looking cute... just a bit dfferent?

your choice.

cats pant too, but when they do it isn't good. Their fur opens up to allow heat to escape.

Cats defy the laws of nature because they are the spawn of hell. Heat doesn't effect them as it does mortals. Get a dog.
