If the scratches aren't very bad some times using toothpaste as a polish will buff them out enough to make the disc playable again.
If you have the money and you want to be more cautious you can get a scratch removal kit at most electronics stores. Also, the people who make DVD X-copy use to make a utility that would try to reconstruct the data from a scratched DVD or CD so you could burn it onto new media, I've never used it and I'm not sure if they still sell it but you could check it out.

Don't listen to these people. Go in the garage and get out the turtle wax and buff the hell out of it. Make sure all the wax is off before you try it again. Or you can get the scratch remover polish at the store for a little more money.

If the scratches are not super deep, you can purchase a product named "scratch Dr.I think that's the name. It's available at walmart,or any warehouse store. It cost about 30.00 and is well worth it.What it does is kinda uniformly sand the disk so that the scratches do not deflect the laser reader thus allowing the disk to play normally.Hope this helps you as much as it's helped me.

you cant remove them only fill them in with a rubbing compound. My sister used liquid car polish on her cd's. but if it is a deep scratch then your dvd is now a coaster.

I guess there isn't a way to do that! Best you can do is transfer the data to your computer and burn it on a new DVD.
