Depends on how you are getting across. 15 to 76 in CO will take you to I-80 through CO, NE (where you can see a bridge that spans the highway marking the middle of the US), IA, IL (stopping in Chicago to see the sites), IN, OH (Cleveland - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Football Hall of Fame), PA --- from here it depends on where in VA you are going...

You could go 15 to 70 and head East....through CO, KS (Kansas City), IL (St. Louis arch!), IN (Indianapolis), OH (Columbus), again, from here it depends where you are going.

Like the others, check weather.com before you leave. The weather on the East Coast now is calm (but there is something developing outside South Carolina). I haven't heard much by way of tornados in the mid-west either, but check in with hotel people or your radio as you drive.

Safe Travels!

For the most scenic route follow I-15 to I-70, and take a detour on U.S. 6 at Dillon to climb to a 14,000-foot overlook of the Continental Divide. U.S. 6 rejoins I-70 just outside Denver. There's also a great hotel at Dillon (Comfort Suites) with an indoor/outdoor pool and spa, and be sure to check out Russell, Kansas, Bob Dole's hometown (there's a good A&W drive-in there), and the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene. Kansas is also home to the Russell Stover chocolates factory. I-70 continues across the Mississippi at St. Louis for a view of the Arch, all the way to I-270 outside Washington, D.C.

Well, Las Vegas is pretty far away from Virginia, but in terms of weather I would say be careful around Tornado Alley, and check weather charts on TV and in newspapers. Tornado Alley is mostly the middle states, and you could hit storms if any hurricanes blew up from the south.

I don't know about Las Vegas, but Virginia is experiencing a few storms- though nothing really note-worthy.

Vegas to Virginia? First, plan on a full week in the car.

Second, check the weather forecast for yourself.

if you have the time - stay off the beaten path and take Route 66 -it does exist and will get you most of the way to Virginia with a lot more adventure and sightseeing than the mega freeways. You can also use Mapquest and choose the option "avoid freeways".
