Thailand is a land of smiles. You don't need a tour group tp feel safe. Just don't show off your pile of cash in the public, and you will be fine, it's the same as all countries. If you treat everyone you meet with respect, you'll make a lot of friends there.

1.Always insist on paying cab fares by metre.
2.Always bargain.
3.Always use condom for sex.
4.Always look out for good food.
5.Always ask yourself, do you need a Thai-girl, or a Tiger(beer).

The trees are dancing, the branches of leaves are waving at you.....enjoy!

You can easily get onto a tour when you are in Thailand. Majority of the hotel/resort/guesthouse will have a travel desk or a nearby travel centre. So all you need is to approach one and hop on the tour that you like. Simple as that. There are half day and full day tours, including some to nearby districts even. So go and have fun sightseeing.

I seriously would not do a group tour. You'll pay more and see less than you would otherwise. Really no point in that. Why do you prefer a group tour? Afraid of going somewhere alone? Don't be. I've travelled alone to Thailand MANY times, and always have lots of fun.

The best bang for the buck tours of Thailand are through Grand Circle Travel Co. Although their tours are usually packed with older couples the allow plenty of time for individual excursions and also allow you to return on one of their later tours giving you lots of time for individual pursuits. Suggestions for which are readily available on other websites.

Bangkok, most likely your arrival city is an international place - people from all over the world.. You can make friends very quickly and easily -- so, if that is the only reason for a tour -- don't worry - - I am in bkk now. I make new friends here every day. Very easy.
