We are planning a trip to New York, 2-3 days, and are looking for affordable lodging. We're thinking about $150/night. We don't what to stay in a dump, but the place doesn't have to be the Waldorf, either. I'm checking the internet sites for pricing---anyone stay there rececently and have any feedback on where they stayed? Positive and negative feedback is most welcome. THANKS!

The Murray Hill Inn on 30th is pretty cheap, it is next door to me and seems OK. Also, the Thirty/Thirty on 30th between Madison and Park is fairly reasonable and the rooms are nice, a freind stayed there last year.

staying in Manhattan is expensive unless you go uptown however don't look uptown, some parts are a Little rough, if your going to NY via car and plan to drive into the 'city' consider staying in Jersey right over the George Wash. Bridge ( Fort Lee ), lots of hotels and they are cheap, if your planning on getting around with the subway look for a hotel in the outer boros close to the subway lines ( but don't go more then a few stops out of Manhattan ), or if you want to stay in Manhattan look down in Soho-it's cheaper then the Time Sq, area. and there is lots of shopping there.

I got rooms at the Milford Plaza (Fri - Mon) for $159 a night right near Times Square in the Center of everything. There were still some rooms available in the hostels. Keep looking. Good Luck!

What I did was stay in NJ near the city, then take the bus in. There are a lot of hotels in Parsippany that run about $150 a night. Check expedia.com or travelocity.com for hotels in the NYC area and they will display the rates.

i've stayed at the "days inn" in midtown once (right off times square). was a great location and wasn't too expensive either - booked it with my flight on www.expedia.com. was a nice hotel too, had a breakfast place right next to it. :-)
