It is widely known by intelligent people that religions are mere myths clung onto by the weak and misinformed people in society like a leach on someones leg. Or a quivering child to a safety blanket. As useful as praying to a wall for salvation or as expecting salvation from a carrot. Maybe its that they are scared of Hell when you might as well be afraid of Wales as at least there is a chance you may end up there. Anyway back to the point will knowledge finally kill it off so we can stop listening to the pathetic weak members of our society dodging mankinds responsibility by false beleifs that some old fart in a white robe who just so happens to aleviate peoples worries by silently saying yes in their brains. It does my head in how people can be so blind and the world would be a better place if people where actually kind instead of believing they should be kind because the ahole in the sky will send you to hell if you are not.

Mufy: When Im drowning, I would probably shout a far more profound comment, like "Crap, I need air, swim to the top"

And yes when I need help I do indeed turn to my "knowledge books" I tend to find that they have tought me many things, from Chess to the superior type of Dressing for an Italian salad. My girlfriend and Family also help. O rif Im really down there is always Arnie.

chdoctor, I have read much Philosophy and at least some of the works you speak. Many people have in the past including more modern philosophers, scientists, waitresses, its called an accumalation of knowledge. We do have more knowledge thatn them thats the way the world works, on the past. Inbuilt knowledege or are primal needs may have stayed the same but if you put an infant on a desert island and came back 50 years eh would not be as knowledgeable as Mariah Carey never mind Plato.

I understand your frustration but not all religious people are as you say. They are very strong minded, proud and stubborn people. Many contribute a great deal to society. Many are great philanthropist giving to the needy and poor. I partially agree with your logic but its not the fault of the people who are spoon fed some religion or another. Jesus would have said "forgive them father they know not what they do" or something like that (its in the red words). May be in the future people will realize that religion (any) is not a constant and evolves and changes to fit the times. True "salvation" is that the real "God" is pure and above all these petty belief systems.

Being hostile to these people will only re-affirm their beliefs and not help them see.

I also agree that people should take the responsibility upon themselves to be kind to others not because their diety says they should.

Religious dogma restricts a persons ability to think. It turns every thing into black and white and misses all the shades of grey. Unfourtunately they are many who (for lack of better choice of words) simply do not have the brain power to accept other alternatives. Its like their hard drive is already full.

Personally, if there is a cruel god out there that will burn millions for eternity in "hell" for not picking the right religion. I will proudly burn with my principals in tact because I know that God is wrong.

In looking at the world the way it is, there must be an almost universal weakness built into humans that make us afraid because while we think we are the smartest creatures on the planet, we still cannot control our individual destinies, So, we invent a creature who has what has been left out of us and we worship that creation. It amazes me, too, that the religious myths continue to be so popular. But, in my 60 years of life thus far, I have not observed that humankind has improved our state much. Look at the world today.

When you are a true Christian you have no problem showing love to others. Jesus was and still is compassionate. We are to be the same. Jesus became God in flesh to show us how to walk the road of faith. I am so sorry you are so bitter. Religions are not mere myths they are laws made by man-kind for other man-kind. I believe the Holy Bible. Your opinion of me may be pathetic and weak minded but that is OK. You do not know me. I do not dodge societies illness, this is man made also. I am not afraid of hell, I consider it a privilege and honor to be able to have the Lord in my life.

I myself am an intelligent person. But for you I certainly hope what you believe is true. Because if I spend my life believing that the Lord Jesus will come again and take me to heaven to live for eternity and this does not really happen then I have not lost anything. I lived a good life and died. But for you my friend if you truly believe what you say and you are wrong then you will die and I will live forever. I win no matter what and you lose either way because you lived a life with out any support from your troubles in life and you died with that belief. Good Luck in your endeavors.

those are not the "intelligent" people but rather the blind who falsely believe that religions are mere myths.... It will NEVER be killed off... though it will go to the level of a murmur because of the "blind" will increase in the world...Oh God.. ok lets set things clear... Humans are inclined to worship a divine being... why is it when you're drowning u call for God?? or when you are in a difficult situation... who do you turn to?? your ""intelligent books""???

Sounds like the religious philosophy of Karl Marx.

Is it easier for you to reject the truth of what you call "religion" when you overgeneralize and call all of its adherents "unintelligent," "weak," "misinformed," "quivering children clinging to their security blanket," etc.? How lazy!

You historical progressivists believe that we're all so much smarter now then our historical predecessors. Ignore the Platos, Aristotles, and DaVincis of the past. We're smarter now! Yeesh!

I don't think religion will ever "die out." It may change, there may be relapses of classical religions, there may be some new revelation influencing Christianity, who knows, but I don't think it will ever go away. Some one some where will always credit a higher being or a higher form of power.

Widely known be intelligent people? Yeah, right! Get a clue. Mankind is a religious animal and always will be. Your wishing that it could be otherwise won't change that.

And it doesn't matter anyway, because like it or not, IT'S ALL TRUE!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, your logic is not widely known. Many of the most intelligent people practice religion faithfully.

Religion will die out when humans die out.

The system doesn't want it to die out. Religions allows some to dominate crowds of people. it's a means of mass control. Religion and ignorance will neve die, unfortunately.
