Infection in the muscles is of three kinds: bacterial, viral, and parasitic.

Bacterial infection of muscle is a very serious condition that results from overlying wounds, surgical infection, or entry of special organisms like tetanus or treh "flesh eating strep"- this needs aggressive treatment in hospital with IV antibiotics.

Viral myositis occurs, but it is rare- most of the muscle aches which are severe in influenza are not real infection of muscle but side effects of teh immune response. There is no treatment for this condition, and none is needed.

Parasites like trichinosis or cycticercosis will encyst in muscle and either cause painess masses or small lumps. These need oral antiparasitic treatment.
