I keep hearing on the news about Lebanon bombing Israel and everyone who is close to me (religious) keeps saying that now is the time to repent and though all of that annoys me, I wonder....Israel is the holy place....so is it the end of the world beginning now?

This is not yet the end of the world. Do not worry about this, but focus on your own relationship with Christ. The end of the world is coming some day, but the safest place to be will always be to stay in God's will.

I don't think the world is coming to an end because the Middle East has been bombing and attacking each other for thousands of years, the only difference now is that the media is making this seem like a new thing. Realistically the world has been ending ever since it was created, like how you start dying as soon as you are born. While some of the end times prophecies are coming true they have happened before, people reacted the same, and the world kept on spinning.

If enough people believe the Bible's last book as Prediction and not Prophecy, then yes it is, but I as a Pagan do not believe that it is so; we have the capacity to change future. This world has had many different religions of the centuries, and since there has not, nor ever be, a one 'true' religion all of this end of the world speech are just the ramblings of people with negative world view. I think that in the next few weeks things will settle down, hopefully, and some kind of peace will be attained without the arrival of their Anti-Christ. Some one once told me if you give evil a name you give it power, so maybe what we are seeing is the evil of man, and not the divine working to destroy the very planet they so lovingly created.

Blessed Be To All.
May Peace be with you.

"Israel is the holy place" ... That is true for only those who believe it. There is NO end of the world as we know it, and hundreds of predictions have been made and HAVE FAILED. The REAL end of the world will be when the sun stops sending the necessary energy.

We should not see this situation as a religious one, since it can only bring even more divisions. We should see it as an international, interethnic and intercultural conflict going on for decades. Peace will be achieved once diplomatic and historial events are carefully analyzed and both parties would agree on bending some aspects, so peace will prevail.

Modern day Israel is not ancient Israel. Ancient Israel was a brutal theocracy, whereas modern Israel is a secular Republic.

For ~1900 years there was no Israel at all. A nation of the same name, covering the same approximate region, was constructed in 1948 as a conspiracy between Zionist Jews and dispensational Christians. This is not the way the Bible says it would be done.

Be careful to avoid two extremes in trying to answer this question. One extreme forgets Middle East history and supposes that that latest bloodshed in or near Israel is a sure sign of the end times. The other extreme ignores the prophecies regarding the unfolding of end times events in that region. The wisest place to be is somewhere between these two extremes. Yes, world events in the end times will focus on Israel, but not every flare-up is a sure sign that it's happening right now.

It could be the beginning of the end, although realistically Israel's
been fighting with it's neighbors since it was founded in the 1940s. It's too soon to jump to conclusions at this point. Personally I think the worst we have to look forward to is a
nuclear war,but it probably won't come to that. I strongly doubt
the end of the world will be coming any time soon.

Do you know, how many times in the past 'the end of the world' was predicted? Many many times. But we are still here.

Maybe, if it makes you this paranoid, you should stop watching the news. Give it a try. Within a few weeks, you will feel much better and far less paranoid. And believe me, the chance that the world is still there is huge.

Every generation has believed themselves to be part of the "end times" even Jesus himself believed the end was near... even within his lifetime.

So far the end of the world prophecy is 0 for 2006. Probably higher since there are multiple predictions here and there.

Israel and Palestine have been at it forever... and they will be forever. Sadly, religion is a big part of why they are fighting, fighting over imaginary beliefs. Very sad indeed.

Israel WAS a holy place.
It hasn't been such for centuries.
But yes, we are in that period of time.
Although 'end of the world' is a poor way of saying it.
Its not the end of the planet, but rather the end of a system.
