I don't agree with the second answer, as I don't see how driver files would be written to during this process.

I would say that the danger lies in your photos. If you notice no damage so far, chances are excellent you've done no damage. But I wouldn't go doing this willy-nilly, as someday something might happen (like losing photos on the card or corrupting the card). Typically with things like this, there is some small but non-zero probability of losing data. Which means, just because you've done it 99 times with no problem, is no proof that you won't have a problem the 100th time. On the other hand, it could be like my gas grill; the instructions say I must use soap and water to check the hoses and connections for leak each time I use it. Do I? Does anyone? Of course not. They are covering their rears for something that may happen once in a million times.

My recommendation? Make an effort to obey the icon but don't panic if you forget. If the damage is not immediately obvious you are probably safe.

No will not ruin your camera but the "ddl files" or "dll files", commonly known as drivers, work at the XP windows as automatic recognition help as soon as you plug the usb connection into the PC, the risk is that if you do not use this "safely remove", you may damage the file... And then you will not be automatically recognized, that is it... Which in the case it happen re-installing the camera software will fix the issue at anytime...

Until you safely remove the camera, your computer is accessing the memory card. Yanking the camera out anyway can damage the memory card.

It may. Always do it the way the instructions suggeest you to. If you're not sure about it, ask someone like at Best Buy who is knowledgable about this kind of stuff and he'll tell you what he thinks. You can let him look at your camera. I hope this helps. Have a great day!
