No it doesn't hurt. A person "receives" the Holy Spirt when Christ redeems them unto Himself. Christ puts His Spirit, the Holy Spirit in this case, within that person, transforming them to live unto Him.

When people "scream and cry" in church, it may be just a put on or it may be because those people have been misled to believe that that is the proper action to do to imagine oneself being filled with the Holy Spirit. Or, maybe some of that vocalization is sincere. Some people may be expressing their true love to the Lord.

There's a lot of different possibilities but it's not because they're being "filled with the Holy Spirit." If they're true Christians, that has already happened when Christ redeemed them.

When the Holy Spirit takes over one's body sounds kind of creepy.
People literally rolling on the floor or speaking in tongues in a uncontrolled manner.

If you really want to know, try it.
People might scream and cry because they are emotionally relieved. They are forgiven and set free. Nothing compares to the experience, therefore they are overwhelmed and they cry but it's not pain or sadness that causes them to cry - the opposite is true -- Happiness and love is what brings them to tears.
You might benefit from an experience like that.

it does not hurt. they scream and cry because they thank the lord for what he has done and how merciful he is. he loves everyone, even you. i know you are an atheist but he still loves you like the most perfect christian. and that makes people scream and cry because they are so thankful for how merciful he is. just think about that.

Religion deals with moral issues as well as life and death. Most cristian churches speak of terrible things for "bad people" and wonderful rewards for "good". This causes tons of confusion for the average person trying to just survive which could lead to emotional outbursts.
