yes, however if you cannot swim they will teach you in boot camp. I do suggest learning before that to avoid embarrassment by the company commander. You really only need to know the basics, you jump off of a platform (I think it was about 10') and tread water for a couple of minutes, then swim to the edge of the pool.

i don't know about the navy but the u.s.m.c test you on this in basic, in world war two during the d-day invasions many marines drown in less than 5 feet of water due to there packs, that weighed in excess of 50 lbs. so many died this way it is now mandatory training in the u.s.m.c.they make you swim with your full pack on and tell you how to float and tread water. i would guess the navy is the same so you better get some flottys.

NO.. you dont need to know how to swim, my uncle retired from the navy..and still cant swim..

I bet if you told the recruiter he would help more. the Navy would probably pay you to learn how to swim.

Nope ! In boot camp they let you swim in the kiddy pool and if u do descent..... they dont give a ****
