Polish everything. If you want to be recognized as a great janitor in a school, just do your janitor job, but also establish good relationships with the students, faculty, staff, and parents. Be friendly and considerate, and get to know the kids and be a good influence on them. Teach them that janitors are people, too, which is something I think they often forget. The janitor on the PBS show ARTHUR was a good example until he retired and moved in to his daughter's house.

Attend the University of Toledo. They produce more janitors than any other institution in the US, except maybe Duke.

Do as little work as possible, and drink as much as possible, without losing your job.

That's the hallmark of a great janitor.
