No offense but at your age I have to believe you've some experiences with decorating, color, etc.

I'm 62 and have been awake for a large portion of my life.

I suspect you have ideas, or thoughts of what you already enjoy, and certainly things you've already collected, in fifty ish years.

It's also a very personal experience. No answers here will be right or wrong, but will be based on personal opinions and experiences.

A bedroom for a younger person might be wild or mild, animated or subtle. At 50 you can explore any or all of those possibilities as well, and paint is an inexpensive way to start.

This is a room where you may spend a majority of your time? It should be inviting to you, probably a calming place. Perhaps decorated with collected icons. It should feel comfortable, and enjoyable,,, even though you may spend most of your time there, in the dark.

Certainly your own preferences will allow for those things, and many major home stores offer pamphlets, books, magazines suggesting things that might coincide with your own likes or interests.

Coordinate items, colors, etc. with the furnishings for now, unless you plan to change them soon. As your budget allows do window treatments, change the light fixture to suit, add art work or other accessories you most enjoy.

Just my two-cents worth, but since your furniture is mostly dark I would paint the walls a lighter color (but not too light) like tan, dusty rose, baby blue, lavendar, maybe mint green or something close...leave the white blinds and keep the trim white, then put up either solid-color curtains that are darker than the walls or patterned curtains that have some of the wall color in them (if you like flowers, you could do white curtains with flowers that match the walls but also have darker shades of that color, say dusty rose, bright red, scarlet, etc.)...If you can get a comforter that matches the curtains or is close, that would be good. Might also want to consider staining the tall dresser a darker shade of brown so it's closer to the other pieces (doesn't have to be exactly the same, but you don't want drastic differences in your furniture pieces either).

well.. for a bedroom the best colour is the ice blue because is very relaxing but if u draw a kind of white clouds with a sponge ...the effect is great .....if u wish u can glue some highlighted stars on the ceiling so that when u turn off the ligths it would be so realing and will help u to sleep ...

How about an "island getaway" theme? Nothing corny, but you could get one of those fake mosquito net things to hang over the bed, get some bamboo blinds, and bold colours. I think a combo of turqoise and coral colours would be nice, as far as drapes, duvet cover, etc.

At 50 you need an elegant subdued bedroom or a vibrant bright moroccon bedroom......depending on your outlook in life and your personality as a person.you should concentrate on getting a colour scheme which gives the room unified look and also makes it more matchy.
try a moroccon look with deep rich colours and antique fixtures picked up from flea markets or alternatively even go in for a british look with dull wallpaper, wooden furniture, framed glasses concentrate on getting a few solid pcs whivh look classy and strong.
if you are looking at schemes,go with what u r comfortable with.repaint the walls go with ur comfort levels, try the indian look, lots of low furniture and detailed funky pictures of gods and godesses, santiques from india or moroccon with rich deep colours, try theflea market look or the hip socialite look.up to you.stick to mixing cheap stuff picked up from flea markets with the already existent furniture.

i would do something dark but inviting! If you have dark colors it will help you sleep better at night, plus it is more romantic! i use dark brown comfortor adn darker pictures in my room that sounds a lot like yours - then to give it just a punch of color without being too bright I have used a green thats not dark but its not like lime green either and it seems to work very good for us! Good luck!
