How long do companies like Canon and Nikon change their models? Because I can only get my first DSLR Camera after two years. So what should I do in the mean time? And how old are the Nikon D50 and Canon 350D are they phasing out?

Nowadays cameras are "upgraded" about every two years. The moral, don't keep buying an upgraded body every time one comes out. You'll go broke doing that. Find one that works for you and stick with it.

The Nikon D50 and the Canon 350D were both released last year. The D50 was a completely new model. Before that, the cheapest Nikon dSLR was the D70. The Canon 350D was an update of the 300D and it had some real improvements.
In all likely hood, the D50 and the 350D will both be replaced within the next 2 years. Canon generally updates their digital SLR models every 18 months and Nikon usually brings out some improvements every 2 years (like with the D70s) and completely updates their models every 4 years.
In the mean time, you can get a cheap digital point & shoot and start taking pictures. I would recommend against getting a film camera in the mean time because the cost of film and developping really adds up if you take a lot of pictures.

What will dictate the life of a camera is up to you and the life of the mechanics of the camera. The Canon & Nikon consumer & Prosumer cameras are rated to have a 50,000+ shutter life. Used cameras are a good buy while you wait for the new camera you want. Get the best lenses you can now. Invest in Glass. Camera bodies are going to become commodities. That is the nature of the digital world. Once Full size senors become the norm instead of the exception, the "digital" lenses will become worthless. So don't invest in them.
