My 1 1/2 year old cat got out of the house and was lost for a month. He came back and now he has a bald patch between his shoulder blades as if the hair was ripped out. Will it grow back or will it be like this forever?

First look at the skin and check if it is still fresh wound. if that is still fresh maybe that caused something like an accident or another animal fought with your cat. Wait for maybe a week to heal and maybe the hair will go back. If not, go to the nearest vet and let them check it.

Bald Patch On Cat

How long has he had the bald patch and is there a wound, or just flaky bare skin? If there is a wound or a scar, he was in a fight and lost. But if he was in a fight, he should have some other wounds. He might have mange or ringworm which is not a worm but a fungus. Ringworm can be passed to humans. Are you itching?
Either way he needs to go to the vet. If he has been in a fight, he needs to be checked for a lingering infection. He will get a shot of antibiotics and you will have to shove pills down him. If he has a skin disease, you will be given a medicated shampoo. This will be lots of fun.
While he is at the vet, have him "chipped". The vet can put a microchip in his neck that will can be read by a special instrument they have at animal shelters and places where lost cats end up. If he ever gets out again, it will improve your chances of getting him back. I hope you know how lucky you are

It will. It sounds like your cat got into a fight. It will grom back. Plus your cat was missing for a while. So he didn't get the right diet so that's why he has bald spots. Just give him Some Olive oil. Put it in his food or even feed him some olive jucie. My cats love it. It will help keep his coat nice and it will help him grow his fur back faster.

I'm pretty sure it will grow back in time bcuz my cat always cuts his head in the same place which leaves a bald spot right near his ear and it always grows back until he gets cut again. lol. But, If the spot is hard then its a kind of crust forming from a bite or scratch(probably like a scab)Have your vet take a look at it though if you can.

It will grow back. You may want to take him to the vet to make sure that it isn't a fungus that needs to be treated. Most likely its just from a fight, but to be on the safe side, he does need to see the vet especially since he was out for so long. You don't know what he could have picked up.

It most likely will grow back. When I asquired one of my cats, he was largely bald from malnutrition (he had been abandoned). And he had a few scars from fights. But within a couple of months, he had a gorgeous coat of fur again.

I'm assuming you've taken him to the vet? The vet will give you salve for the injury, and usually hair grows back, even after being ripped out.

It should grow back - but may not come ALL come back. It just depends on the cause of hair loss.........like if it was caused by fleas, allergic reaction to something, or if he got into a fight.....etc.
Have you taken him to the vet? Is he up to date on his shots? Might want to take him in and see what vet thinks : )
