If I am to be punished for all eternity because I am a sinner, and according to most religions I AM a sinner, then I have to begin to try and understand what eternal punishment would be before I can consider that something to be scared of.
So, I am sent to hell and there is the usual fire, brimstone and demons torturing you for all eternity... This wouldn't bother me in the slightest, as I'm dead... Pain is an indication of injury, and as injury means nothing to me then pain itself means nothing to me, so pain can't be used as part of my punishment...
Showing me something which I usually could not stand, such as my loved ones being tortued, would also be equally as ineffective as I know that my loved ones would not be tortured purely to inflict torture on me and if they were being tortured they would be in the same situation as me so I could do nothing about it.
I can't think of anything I would consider punishment..!
Can you help me out and think of a punishment for me..?

RE: The spanking comment
That's not going to bother me... Considering I'm 28 years old I would also love to see someone try to put me over their knee and spank me... Most people pay for that kind of thing at my age.

So far the worst one is reading nonsense questions on Yahoo for 10,000 years... But still, I could handle that...
Being alone for all eternity, don't care... At least I'm in good company.

Stop being so logical.
What are you trying to do, make people actually think about some of the nonsense they have been told?
They can't do that, if they did pretty soon they would realize that God loves everybody equally.
Then whom would they have to be better than?
Get a grip on yourself man?
Seriously with a mind like that you should be studying the course in miracles.
It is the antidote for all the nonsense that has ever been made up about God.
I thought I was an atheist till I found the book.
I realized that the only thing I really did not believe in was the nonsensical idea about God I had been given by organized religion. The real God was still there patiently waiting for me to notice her/him.
Try it you may be in for a surprise.

Actully you wouldn't be in Hell, as hell is only the waiting room for your eternal punishment. Which would be according to the bible a sea of fire. So more something like living in molten rock. According to the bible you will have all your senses working, and they will work better then they do now. As you are a spirit, your body would be dead, but your spirit would live. But thats not really the bad part. The bad part is that you will be alone. Imagine being locked into a room alone for a million years. You have nobody to talk to, you can see nobody. The only thing there will be is voices taunting you.
You have a choice today. Chose life. Chose God. Chose Jesus. Don't chose death and lonlyness.

maybe your punishment would be solitude no one to listen to you. but yet as you put it your dead but the problem my friend is not the punishment but the lack of understanding that you have no clue what awaits you or what death is because no one died and came back that can explain it and the one that did no one believes in or doesn't believe he came back. how do you know death means you will not feel pain how do you know that you will not be aware. can you explain anything that you know with no doubt and can prove with no doubt. well no because there is always doubt. can I promise you will feel pain no I cant. the mere thought of unknowing what will be when the time comes opens up all kinds of possibilities. Your a non believer so yes you will most likely laugh at my answer but if you had any feeling in you and in which I believe you do some place in your mind you are listening to me and your thinking that you really do not know what awaits you. but just for the record you should never follow anything through fear. the real meaning is not to fear what might happen but the good rewards of having a compassionate heart and helping others is a reward not many can find.

Imagine to be on the edge of a dry hot ruthless desert with a clear cool lake just outside of reach. Now forget about the physical pain (thirst, heat, etc.) and concentrate on the knowledge that you will never, ever, ever obtain that which quenches the inner struggle. The punishment is not physical but more emotional. But, on the other hand, recognize a GOD of supreme forgiveness so far beyond what we as mere humans could imagine and I think that "quenching" will already be obtained for eternity.

There is no god in the Judeo-Christian sense, but there is a Higher Power, which many refer to as The Light. The Light is nonliving, infinite, and governed by Universal Law which cannot be changed one iota. The more spiritually evolved the soul, the greater its ability to ascend into The Light when free of matter.
We are not judged by a god. We are judged by The Light.
No one can escape it.
Punishment in the Spirit is emotional and mental, not physical. We are punished mainly for cruelty to innocents, as we are forced through our own retrogression to feel how they felt and to be surrounded by others who are also spiritually retarded and evil.
There are many accounts of people who have been regressed hypnotically back to a time in their Interlife (i.e., in-between physical lives), whereby they resided in hellish dimensions. (The book, Lifetimes: True Accounts of Reincarnation, goes into this. See link below.) There are loud sounds, screams, and constant fighting and strife.
Intense loneliness, frustration, and disgusting thoughts and feelings are a contant in the hellish regions.
The way out and also a way to avoid it is to take responsibility for one's actions, to pay back karmic debts, to serve others, and to strive to live by The Golden Rule.
Then, when free of matter, one has the ability to ascend to at least a basically spiritual plane in the Mid Realms of Spirit - where the many Cities of Light are located.

Your punishment is here on Earth. There is no Heaven and Hell.
If your are a sinner, you pay for your sins within your life.
If we each follow the Golden Rule, it's easier to live with ourselves, and our punishment for the little mistakes we make is called consequence.

How about feeling alone and unhappy, forever separated from God.
Whatever awaits us in eternity, I wouldn't want to find out the hard way, after it's too late to do anything about it.
Better to obey the words of the Bible - repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and be filled with the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38,39).

The first error in your question is assuming there is a Hell. This has never been proven. It is only speculation by some who have to use "faith" not evidence to back up their theory.
