I mean if woman were forever to be doomed with this, then wouldn't doing something to get rid of that pain be a sin?
Now please don't cop out with the old "anything good is of God" bit. Especialy if you want to be considered for best answer. I want YOUR actual opinon and feelings on this!

Now I haven't had kids yet, and won't lie and say I have. And i'm sure an epidural hurts. But I have a friend that had kids both ways, and she said the epi birth was nothing compred to the non epi birth.
But I think some of you are missing part of the point. Childbirth didn't hurt before eve ate the apple. Well as far as I know there wasn't childbirth before that, so I think it would be better to say it wasn't supposed to hurt. But she sinned, and God punished her, and ALL woman after her with the pain of childbirth.

Considering......that the word is both physical and spiritual I would look at the spiritual side of the meaning of the pain of child birthing...I heard a sermon by a woman named Juanita Bynum Weeks ..and she showed how that a woman who is a virtuous woman...her job is to birth...not just children but as a helpmeet ..she by much prayer and fasting births...the vision God has given to the man...so through much hardship toil...heartache..she births that vision..and it is a painful process....God bless

If you really want my opinion, that's a stupid idea and women being punished by childbirth is a stupid idea as well. It's only propagated by hateful jerks who need a punch in the face.
But at the turn of the century there was a huge push by the church to make it so that women would not get anything for pain in child birth for that very reason.
That reason being that the church was full of jerks.
The whole idea of it is annoying. Childbirth seems more painful and dangerous for the baby even than the mother. No one thinks god was punishing babies.

My actual opinion is I don't think I'm going to go to hell for having pain medicine during labor! It says nowhere in the Bible that it's a sin!
Even with epidurals and pain killers, you still feel a good bit of pain! All I know is I'm 5 ft 61/2 and 125 pounds, I'm not a big girl, and one of my kids weighed 11 pounds 5 1/2 ounces when I delivered him....There was noway I was having that child without some sort of pain killer! If that is sin, then I'll take my punishment!

@_@ Well, for starters, I think that little detail is a little bit of the mythology of the bible: someone trying to exlpain the world they saw around them.
I think childbirth is painful because one is trying to push a 6-8 pound squirming sack of flesh through an opening that typically only accomodates something the size of a hot dog. It doesn't take a genius to conclude that such a thing might hurt just a little.
I don't believe childbirth pain was meant as an eternal punishment on all women throughout history...seems awful vindictive of a loving God to me. So I can't imagine something that aids a woman through the miracle of birthing to be a bad thing.

Here's the thing. We're not Eve. I'm not sure Eve ever existed and since men wrote the bible, it seems fitting that they'd lay the blame on women and encourage them to suffer needlessly.
Women have enough to deal with, with hormones and periods and all of the crap that goes along with it. I think it's far more important to have a stress-free labor and to be comfortable than to be in constant pain for absolutely no reason. I had an epidural with my son and had absolutely the best possible experience I could have had. We take advantage of modern technology is so many ways. Why would it be wrong to take advantage of technology so we can be comfortable and so our children can be born without a lot of stress?

The pain of childbirth was there for tens of thousands of years before a group of men sat down around a campfire to create the myths necessary to organize and subjugate the people they wanted to command. These men made up stories about how things came to be, as all mythologists have always done.
First came the way things are. Then came the mythology to explain why... mythology that helped promote their cause, of course.
'God' had nothing to do with it.

The individual Christian woman, must seek direction from Christ. I think there are too many people out there, who want to question Christ and God. The are trying to get different answers and use it against the word of God. Let me tell you and all those out posting questions & answers. If you really want to find God, get to know him, build an understandable & intimate relationship in your life...get on your knees & search for him in your heart.
If a child questions...Dady why did you take that job, Mommy why did you cook that food, Gramma did God want you to marry Grandpa...etc....the child is missing the point.
If a Chemistry student is in a class under a professor and he is questioning complex chemical equations before he can understand Prep Chem, he is putting the cart before the horse.
PEOPLE: look for God in your heart and he will grow with you and reveal himself with you. You can build a relationship with him and understand him. Stop trying to profile God. Find out who he is in your hearts!!!!

Painful childbirth was a result of the fall. It was a curse. Nothing wrong with trying to reverse the curse.

well I don't know about you but my epidural didn't get rid of all the pain.. I'm sure it helped some but it sure didn't feel like it... so I think that it is OK to have one. the pain is still our punishment... no different then my husband taking Advil after a long day at working.. ( the land for food ) .... he's not really a farmer but he is still working to provide...

I tend to think the pain of childbirth comes after the actual act of giving birth....one of her sons murdered the other....this is the kind of pain I think the bible was talking about.

I think not. Easing the suffering of others is not a sin. In fact it's very noble. When my kids were being born I insisted that she feel as little pain as possible regardless of the cost.
