There is this girl I have liked for a long time and want to ask her out. My friend told me she would go out with me if I ask. The problem is I have a female roommate and this girl I like would not go for that, but I promised my roomate she could stay with me as long as she needed to. I don't like to go back on my word but I like this girl very much and want to go out with her. What is the best thing to do

I think most girls appreciate a man who will not go back on on his word. Just make that in everything you do , not just this roomate situation.
When it becomes a question, which it will. Just tell her.... then go from there.

How do you know this girl won't like you having a female roommate? Let her know you 2 are just roommates/friends and that is it.
Ask her out and if she says yes and has a good time...then maybe she won't mind. Give it a try.

Are you absolutely sure she would mind the roommate? It's pretty common these days to have such living arrangements. Usually these problems can be solved by simply discussing it. Surely she'll be able to understand it. And if she doesn't, then if I were you I'd start asking myself whether she really is that wonderful person I imagined her to be. And after all the roommate situation is still only temporary.

If the girl you like can't understand that you have a female roommate then leave her alone. I had a male roommate back in the day and though all common living areas were shared, we had our own bedrooms. My bf never cared at all cause he trsted me.

Just tell her you want to go out with her, be straight up and tell her you have a roommate. But tell her everything how you helping your roomy and that you made a promise to her that you don't want to break. If she is a really nice understanding person she will think that what you doing is really nice.

Ask the girl out. Go for it!

If I were in that situation...I mean if I were the girl you were dating, I'd give it a shot despite your female roommate. I'd probably be upset if you hung out with her too much. So with this girl you're dating...just be honest and hang out with her a lot, then things might be okay.

You are getting ahead of yourself - you need to ask her out first, get a 'yes', go out, maybe a couple of times....and then cross that bridge about the female roommate - who you have yet to actually ask if you can bring someone home.

Ask her to go out with you. If she accepts let her know that you have a female room mate to avoid conflict later on. Make sure she knows any other details i.e if you ever dated her or if she ever had a crush on you. This will go a long way to saving your relationship and also build her trust in you and uncomplicate things for her.
