First of all you'll need to patent it. Then take your idea to Cadbury's etc.

Yep PATENT it - (and only if you think it would develop into something big like Cadbury's or Mars)

After doing that which should cost a couple of hundred (well a couple of hundred in the UK, by my understanding) and providing no one had had that idea before for the taste or cover design of the bar wrapper, then you are pretty much on your way.

Just take yourself onto the streets and try your luck with testers to the publick (remeber you have that patent - so any sneaker bugger that loves the taste and thinks to steal it for money can't because you have the leagalities to prove it is yours first).

If the testers are right, I would guess that you are the average young man/woman withouth £100,000 to open up a new factory an start producing it so may have to borrow the money on that part or you could negotiate sso that another/local chocalate factory can do it for you (as long as the idea is decent and attractive - you should get something).

then from there you are on your way you could setup your own website to promote it and offer customer feedback, when more money is made you could go into medai marketing on TV, radio, magazines and the sell it that way and then you could start thinking about new flavours and other subsiduries to further the business - sorry have foccused more on the business side I am looking to do something similar although not with chocolate.

- oh yeah, you might need some sort of food & standards certificate to declarate that it is safe for eating - example: warning on your packaging about nuts traces and also listing your ingredients used. This part should be the part before you start producing it in factories.

thanks for reading, sorry if not in 1, 2, 3 steps or may seem a little rushed. hope I helped.

I am tempted to say - make them for yourself and your family - eat them and enjoy them. You want to make money?

You've got no hope. Even if it is novel - you won't get a big company paying you thousands unless they know it will be worth millions. They won't know if it is worth millions unless they invest thousands on marketing and surveys. They won't bother with your idea when they have lots of people in-house already using existing consumer research developing new products.

And. even if it is obvious that your idea will sell so much more than existing developing ideas they will still offer you peanuts (or maybe even just steal your idea).

Why won't the big producers pay you a good price for your idea? Because you need them more than they need you. If you can't get a big producer to invest in your idea i.e. market research, product development, promotion, production, distribution etc - then YOU will have to do all this yourself.

So...do you have the knowledge and skills to turn your kitchen sink idea into into a working factory production line churning out well marketed and promoted products in their millions and sold through an existing chain of distributors? No? Well unfortunately - that is the rub. You either have to play with the big boys - and they play by their own rules (sorry but it is so) OR you convince an investor or an investing group to help you set up your own operations - that will be very difficult.

Sorry to be so negative but this is not 1906 when Arthur Sainsbury can develop a supermarkret chain from one store - today is the century of globalistaion and corporate conglomerates - that is where the power lies. No small businessman unless they have a really novel idea AND the financial backing. That will be your sticking point my friend - raising finance.

A good idea, would be to get the permits necessary to sell your chocolate bar at a local market, or sell to a local supermarket. You will also want to come up with a name and a marketing idea. Another good idea would be to have a "taste test" where you would give free tests to people in your community, to see what kind of response you get. Labelling and packaging is also important. While you are just starting off, its not such a big deal, as you need to sell people the taste not the package, but it is definitely something to think about.

If you start off small, and work your way up, I sure you will get where you want to be.

GOOD LUCK!

Contact a good chocolate company like Cadbury or Nestle and check if they are interested in buying your chocolate. Or else go in for a small business yourself and sell it to your friends for a small amount.

Write to the top chocolate manufactures and tell them you would like them to make your product. You could make a bit of money.

Try the major manufacturers, but be sure you have some sort of patent on it, of that you have copyrighted the recipe.
