My mother had surgery last year, had a lump removed from her uterus and then was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. It was then decided to also perform a hysterectomy to clear all the borders of the lesion. MRI 4 months ago revealed new lesions in the pelvic region. She has been on this diet for the past 3 months. She looks and feels healthy, however is now suffering from severe back ache due to weight loss.

Not at all. The previous "answerer" got it right, mentioning surgery as the best treatment for melanoma. If it has spread beyond the skin, there is absolutely no evidence that the so-called "macrobiotic diet" has any positive effect on melanoma or any other cancer, for that matter.
