I know we die if we don't drink water, by why? What's in it that makes it so important for us to have it. I can't think of anything else, other than air (which I get) that is so fundamentally important to our survival. And, are there any creatures (aside from bacteria) than can survive without water?

Since our bodies are primarily made up of water, we need to be constantly replenishing it. The reason being is that the kidneys, bowels, our breath, and even our skin use water as the vehicle to flush waste products from the body. Becoming dehydrated rapidly throws off all cell metabolism as the fluid levels in the cells become depleted. Just the act of thinking requires water to carry the neurotransmitters from one cell to another.

So, drink up!

Water is an essential part of the diet of all mammals. Humans are able to survive for several weeks without food, but for only a few days without water. Since the body has no means of storing water, a constant supply is needed to replenish the fluid that is lost through normal physiological activities, such as expiration, sweating and urination

Water is essential to all life. It carries nutrients and waste in and out of all living organisms. No life (on earth) can exist without it. There have been theories that life could exist with ammonia, but I have my reservations on that.
