Mania is something like a frenzy or an obsession with something. Movie mania is when people really like movies a lot and watch them all the time, etc.

A mania is period of frenzied excitement, usually associated with crazy, uncontrollable or obsessive behavior. If that's the image you want people to have of you, that's what you call yourself. A movie mania would be a great deal of excitement and obsession over movies. But most people just think it sounds cool.

According to Dictionary.com, Mania is An excessively intense enthusiasm, interest, or desire; a craze. So a person who has Disco Mania is very excited and enthusiastic about disco. I believe people just want to show their enthusiasm for whatever they are excited about.
