No.

And if you checked the 'resolved answers' you would notice that we have answered this same question every single day.

The draft is not coming back because the performance of our professional military has been more than satisfactory AND in this day and time, having a huge land army is not a requirement. We fight wars in very high tech ways, now, and that requires a highly trained and motivated military - the kind you get from volunteers who will stay in long enough to make the training investment (education) worthwhile.
Anyone who talks draft is just another uninformed liberal trying to scare the public with more illogical, untrue information. And the draft had nothing to do with our lack of success in Viet Nam. We NEVER lost a battle in Viet Nam; we lost the war here at home, in the press (not unlike they are trying to do with Iraq today).

Probably just opinion...I haven't heard anything. If they do reinstate the draft, I think they'll have problems parallel to those in the '60's and '70's about the Vietnam War. Maybe even worse, who knows. I don't see them doing so for a while, that's assuming that they do reinstate the draft.

I can't think of a better way to dump every incumbent, because the results would be a national disaster. It was bitterly opposed last time, and I believe the current opposition to the war ,which is present, but understated, would grow to epic proportions.
So,I don't think it's true.BUT...another 911 would be a catalyst for something like this, especially if we could pin it on Iran. Also a suceesful missle strike by N.Korea,or some similar catastrophe.

Dont worry, if you convince the draft board your gay, you wont be drafted. I think your Aunt is just trying to get a reaction from you, for whatever reason, I dont know. Anyways what your Aunt told is not true, so dont worry.

I dont see it passing congress - any represenatative that voted for it would face a nasty re-election. Maybe after this November's elections, but I doubt it.

and contrary to what cirestan says about enlistment being "on the climb", its actually way over the last 3 years. The Army has met its recruiting goals, but only because they cut those goals much lower than they were previously.

UGGG. Your aunt is a fool. There is not draft. The armed forces (all services) have been exceeding their enlistment goals for years now. Your aunt just has no desire to do any primary research just accepting what other ingnorant people say, and it seems you're following in her footsteps. DO SOME RESEARCH OTHER THAN ASKING IGNORANT RELATIVES.

no, thats just fear mongering

what do we need a draft for? what great force or country are we going to be fighting that we are going to need several million untrained bodies as cannon fodder?

the all volunteer army that the US has makes it the best military in the world, and to suddenly throw in several million people who dont want to be there, will make things really bad.

short of having to go to war with china, i dont foresee why we would possible need, or want, the draft to be reinstated.

I think you're wise to be concerned - Bush and Cheney and Co. have no guilt about sending young adults to die. Fortunately, I think the war is so unpopular that politically, a draft would never be implemented.

Stay cool, my friend. You're safe for now.

No, contrary to what most democrats would have you believe, enlistment is actually on the climb, and patriotism is running rampant through the country.
