When you have reached spiritual maturity. It is a different age and different point for each person. Just like the body must physically mature. The person must become mentally mature. The individual must mature emotionally. So must the person mature spiritually. Some people who do not have a long term, personal relationship with Christ, put down, question, and disbelieve those who have spent many , many years building a close relationship with Christ. Just like a physically immature child cannot understand fully what he/she will feel like and live like when fully physically developed, so is the spiritually immature. The immature person, who has not developed intellectually, as another who is a experienced scholar, cannot have the knowledge or wisdom of the mature, intelligent one. The young person or troubled person, who has not developed emotional maturity, cannot act emotionally mature, as one who is older, well balanced etc. So then, spirituality takes growth & development, too! The physical body, the intellectual mind, the emotional component, & the spirit are all connected. To be well balanced, we must be the best we can in all aspects. If we mature in all areas, we then are poised.

I knew one person who could be considered having spiritual poise. This person seems to have a certain depth and intelligence about life. They understand life and how it works to a strong degree. They don't rely on pat answers and beliefs but understand that everything is impermanent---bodies, things, thoughts. It's like they have a secret knowing that life can be unpredictable; it can even end at any moment. This fact is not intellectually understood but it seems to be felt in the core of their being. I think it could be called deep acceptance but it's not a passive acceptance. It's like no matter what happens or how bad things get they have this calm center and they never feel victimized. They feel the pain and happiness of life equally without clinging to any one part. Oops, I was saying "they" but I'm referring to one person I know.
I'd like to consider myself as having at least some spiritual poise. I've been through some rough times lately and underneath it all I do feel a kind of undercurrent of peace. I think spiritual poise is knowing when to let-go and when to not let-go. When to take action and when to surrender and let go and let god. It's facing life with a clear seeing; a willingness to face & feel it all and to transcend it with grace.

I had to look up the word poised, Because I didn't know what it ment. It means:
poised Audio pronunciation of "poised" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (poizd)
adj.

1. Assured; composed.
2. Held balanced or steady in readiness: stood poised for the jump.

I take it from that that spiritual poise means to be spiritualy ready, assured, or composed. If that is the case I do consider myself spiritualy poised.

Someone who has 'spiritual poise' is confident and serene in their choice of beliefs. They recognize there are other beliefs out there, but do not feel threatened by them. They won't get angered by ridicule and they won't ridicule others. For the most part, I consider myself spiritually poised, but I am perhaps too full of questions to fully merit the phrase.
